    Uncaught exception on pearl

    I keep getting this message:

    Uncaught exeption java.lang.illegalargumentexception

I get this when I enter letters from the main menu. It doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough to annoy me.

I have tried changing themes and I have tried to reload my OS from O2. I downloaded it on my computer but I'm not sure if it reloaded the OS. I think it did. I wiped the blackberry and started from scratch.

    Any ideas?

    Ori.

Stacey is right, this usually happens after one or the other appl. wasnt installed successfully. Try to remember when this happened and delete the appl. U could try reinstalling it again, if it does the same thing, the problem might be with the appl. u're installing.

My device connects to the desktop manager. The application loader says that there is no software for my blackberry device installed. I have no options to install the OS.
I keep downloading and installing the latest O2 pearl device software and I am getting nothing! sigh...

Well, I think I got round it by just installing an application and then uninstalling it and using the advanced options to completely reset the pearl. I think this has worked as I haven't had the error yet. I will let you know.
    Ori.
ps. could you let me know where the Vendol.xml file is so I can delete it if I need to?

If windows XP, its under program files/common files/research in motion/ You will find it on a subdirectory of that folder, do a search for files on windows just to make sure.
Glad you got it all worked out!

RIGHT! I've managed to reinstall the system software. needed to delete the vendor file. Took a few attempts. Ended up backing up seperatly and restoring afterwords as it kept failing when selecting backup. I hope the problem will go away, but I'll find out during the course of tomorrow at work.
Thanks for all your help and lets keep our fingers crossed. Now all I need is the O2 to release new system software to get rid of that dreaded 2 second problem!

When you reloaded the OS, did you do a full restore from your backup?
If so, try doing with and testing for a little while without restoring all your data just to make sure that you are not carrying the problem with your backup. At this point it does not sound like a deffective device but I could be wrong.

    Re: Uncaught exception on pearl

Are you using 4.2.1.66? I had this problem for a while with 4.2.0.xx, but so far not with the newest OS. Also, I'm not sure if the same goes for you but usually this happened to me when I would type numbers really quick after my phone had been locked for a while. After unlocking, wait one sec and type in the letters but actually let the list populate to the correct spot. That usually cut down on it's occurence.
