    As far as i know (correct me if im wrong) you can turn off dial from home screen option, and then use shortcuts like a = adress book, etc etc

    Go into the Phone application, Click the Wheel/Menu button and select Options, then General Options. Dial From Home Screen is listed there.

    Yea, I don't see this option on the Pearl. Could be why I'm not familiar with it.

    It's not available on the pearl? I believe that feature is available only on the qwerty devices.

    So i cant do this on the pearl? I dont know why but i remember seeing it somewhere, maybe on the 8800....

    Actually just the opposite. It is turned on all the time and cannot be turned off. You can always dial a number from the home screen and therefore cannot use the desktop shortcuts

    the icons on your homescreen are the shortcuts,

    well, yes, of course. OH!!! i see: mgasim wants to hit, for example, 'h' on his keypad and bring up, for example, his browser home page, instead of starting to dial a 5. i can see where that could be handy...
