True GPS on Pearl 8130 - Get more functionality

As you may know, new Blackberry Pearl 8130 has built-in GPS features.
Would you like to know what true GPS can really give you? Would you like to take full advantage of it?

    Let’s define what GPS is.
GPS is the Global Positioning System. GPS uses satellite technology to enable a terrestrial terminal to determine its position on the Earth in latitude and longitude. To put it in simpler words, it allows users with GPS receivers to determine precise coordinates for their location on the Earth's surface.

What advantage can you take of GPS?
You can add more functionality to your Blackberry, e.g.
    * record tracks of your trips anywhere on the Earth from your BlackBerry. Your tracks will be traced on Google Maps and stored in an online archive or in your BlackBerry.
    * show to your friends the instant position on a map when you are traveling
    * map digital photos precisely at a place they were taken. It will work both for photos captured with your Blackberry or with another digital camera.

    How to?
Step 1. You just need to download GPSed Blackberry app.
You can download it directly to your Blackberry OTA at http://wap.gpsed.com
or download it to your PC and install via BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Download link:
    http://gpsed.com/mobile

GPSed BlackBerry application is absolutely free.

Step 2. Sign up to GPSed online service at:
    http://gpsed.com/signup
    It’s free and easy.

You can find more information about GPSed at:
    http://gpsed.com/about

GPSed Blackberry application and Online Service are now in public beta, so we are waiting for your comments. If you have any questions, please post them to this thread.

You would need external GPS only if you do not have built-in GPS.
For example, if your Pearl model is 8100.

GPSed can work either with external or with internal GPS.

What he is saying is that the verizon gps in the 8130 is crippled by the "Man" and your app will not unlock it.

Tried the app, but the Sprint 8130 does not capture EXIF latitude/longitude data when you take pictures

I guess he's silent about this. Hopefully he's working out the issues and making happen for us Verizon customers. That would be cool.

Has anyone with a Verizon 8130 even tried this yet? If so what are the honest results.

Alas, nobody can help Verizon subscribers with this, except Verizon.

    Yes, it doesn't.

You need to geotag your photos using GPSed Photo Take'n'Pin. It is a Windows app .
You can download it and find more details at:

Re: True GPS on Pearl 8130 - Get more functionality

I'm pretty sure I'll have answered this question for myself before anyone answers it, however I'm still gonna ask. How long does (or maybe the better question is "should") the set up take? The download went just fine and happened in a very timely manner. However the set up has been running for about 30 minutes now and is still going.

I downloaded the program directly to my 8130. Didn't go through the computer.

    Thanks
