Is it just me or is the trackball on the 8130 obnoxious? I was playing with an 8100 and the trackball is smaller (con) but its smoother and doesn't make a scratching sound when you move it. Is anyone else's 8130 have a scratchy sounding trackball?

Every track ball is different from phone to phone. You should replace it, its very cheap and easy. I've replaced a few and each one feels different. Don't know why but its just the way RIM did it with these phones.

There's also a bit of a break-in period. Mine was scratchy at first too and now it's nice and smooth...albeit, black and dirty. Hahaah

I Understand completely. i had the 8100 and it was smooth. I now the 8130 and its a bit jumpy and it sounds scratchy. I Dont mind the scratchy noise as much as the inconsistent movement of the trackball. anyone else notice the diff?

I didn't know you could replace the trackball. Thanks for the link. How long does it take to break in? Its been the same out of the box. And I noticed how jumpy and inconsistent it is too.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Its almost as if they have dimples on them that need to get worked in. Once they are worked in they seems to be fine!!

one solution a friend of mine tried was to substitute the standard 8130 trackball with one from an 8830. totally different tactile feel but fits perfectly. might wanna give that a shot.

How do I go about getting a new trackball? I opened up the trackball casing and stuf and cleaned it up a bit it feels smoother and isn't as jumpy but still the scratchy sound I think its the ridges on the magnetic rollers ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

for a dirty ball > rubbing alcohol and a paper towel did the trick and this is maintenance not a fix. in other words, do it often. its not quick fix. it worked for me anyway.
