    Time for a new LCD?

I think I need to replace the LCD on my Pearl, but before I do I am hoping to get independent confirmation from someone who knows more about these devices. Here's how I reached his conclusion:
    - the phone was dropped and ceased working.
    - I checked all the connections, removed the micro SD card and battery
    - replaced the battery, I get a brief steady red light - then no lights
    - BB Desktop DOES recognize the device and can talk to it normally
    - tried reinstalling base OS from T-Mobile, same behavior
    - tried the reset information suggested at pinstack that includes reset with battery removed
    - without the battery in the Pearl, it is invisible on USB
    - I downloaded JL Cmder and ran all the utilities it provided
    - Started with a wipe and reinstall, still nothing on screen - just black
    - Used JL Cmder to look at Activity Log - everything looked pretty normal
    - Took a screen cap (attached screencap.png)
    - Screencap shows setup dialog prompt on standard theme
    - I take this as a relatively good sign that the CPU and storage are operational
    - followed online instructions for disassembly to check LCD connection
    - LCD connection was fine with ribbon cable

So, I think the problem is isolated to the LCD. The impact of the drop somehow rendered it dead. Is there anything else I should try to validate this conclusion?

I see online that replacement LCD's are available for ~$100. I also noted that you must match the LCD to the original one, not all are compatible. The original LCD is stamped LCD-10294-003/004 631BP MP/3049P00 025130030.

    Suggestions/Comments?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Hey jcbandxi

    Maybe try this thread?

Let me know where you're at. Can you get a replacement? There is a 1 year warranty on all the BBs.

reddog - thanks, but I did try the steps in that thread (repeatedly!), but could not get past step 6 - no matter what, the PC could never see the Pearl with the battery out of the unit.

Unfortunately, it is almost 15 months old and is out of warranty - so this would be a do-it-yourself project.

Oh man that sucks...well then maybe we can find you a cheaper LCD.

    Try this one maybe?

Much cheaper that your orignal estmate. Maybe email them to double check that it will work with your Model. It does seem to be OEM though.

Good luck, let us know how it all works out.

Re: Time for a new LCD?

That's a pretty good price - thanks for the link. I did note that the bbrepairshop site claims:

"The Pearl is made using several different LCDS that are not compatible with one another. For that reason, we cannot sell LCD kits unless you know which lcd your device uses which requires opening the unit up for identification. If you know which one you need, please contact us to place an order. Otherwise, see our services section for BBRS to change your broken LCD for you."

I'll see if they are reasonably close in price, then I can just buy the right one.

    Thanks.

Re: Time for a new LCD?

Well I would try this before you buy a new screen. With your pearl open and disassembled I would disconnect the LCD ribbon and then gently pry the LCD's adhesive case off of the logic board. Remove the top and bottom of the thin metal case around the LCD. Then reattach the screen back into the logic board and see if you get any signs of life from the LCD.

Here is a LCD on Ebay that closely matchs yours
