You can't save word or pdf files to your memory card. This is only for media storage. When OS 4.5 is released (release date unknown) then it is rumored to be possible to save and edit these files to BB.

You sure you can't download the file straight to the card and not view it on the BB just on stick the card in your computer and view it there?

Re: this my be a dumb question

I have tested this on my 8130 (which is running 4.3 mind you) and I can save a PDF to the memory card. Open the PDF attachment, click menu then save and it will give the option to save to card or device memory. I do not have a 4.2 OS to try this on but I don't think it can be done until 4.3/4.5 and since the OP has an 8100 NOT an 8130 he may not have the ability to yet.

Question Re: this my be a dumb question

Yes you can download pdf and word docs to your memory card, only if you are just transferring them. It would then become basically a flash drive. It will show up like a virtual drive under "My Computer" when you hook up the phone.
If you are talking about viewing from your phone, i believe there is a program that can handle word docs but nothing on pdf's that i know of. i think its gridmagic that makes the word doc software.
Here is a link, but i have never tired it.

    Or just google ".doc blackberry"

And here is a freebee for excel stuff...

I know Google has an app called Google Docs, but not sure EXACTLY what it does. I just know they have it. I was told it was to read doc and spreadsheets, might be something to check out seeing as it's free. Can't hurt anything, maybe you could even Google it and read up on it before you do an install.

Can you clarify this please? Are you talking about from email? or from the PC as a thumb drive would? The OP's question is from an email, we have had two mods with 4.2 OS try and can't do it. I have the 8130 with 4.3 and can.

But based on your statement in regards to the OP's question, you can download a .pdf and .doc from an email to your media card? Even if the OS cannot read it natively? Is this correct?
