I am able to get each chapter onto my phone and it works fine, I just figured there has to be a better way.

There should be a setting to split the dvd to 1gb pieces. You want to disable file splitting. That setting is enabled by default on DVD decrypter. Probably something similar on DVD shrink.

Meechie: search for DVD Shrink on dowload dot com's website, costs money though. There are some free ones as well. Thanks for the reply booyakafoo, I'll give that a shot.

I used this method last night, and one of the two videos had delayed audio. The shades of green all over the screen for the first few seconds.

Re: The Original: Video encoding for the 8100

Does anyone know if there is a way to, shall i say, crop a widescreen DIVX avi to make it a 4:3 aspect ratio so it cuts off some of each side of the movie? I'd like to do that before i convert it so it doesn't stretch the video to the 4:3 aspect ratio. Any Ideas?

BTW nice forum here I am a new blackberry user and I'm loving it!

Cropping Video To 4:3 Aspect Ratio

I found out how to crop a video using mencoder, which is what i was using to convert already. I added the crop command to the statement which works as follows:

    crop=w:h:x:y

where w = width, h = height, and x and y are for the location of the crop within the video. Leaving them blank defaults to the center, which is what I do.

First you need to look and see what the dimensions or pixels of your video file are. For instance my avi file of Office Space is 704x384. So to get a 4:3 aspect ratio I needed 512x384 and used it in the command as follows:

    -vf crop=512:384,dsize=4/3,scale=320:240

I'm not really sure what the dsize is for but I put it in there anyways. I don't think it's hurting anything.

My complete command statement in my batch file is as follows:

    C:\Progra~1\MPlayer\Mplayer\mplayer\mencoder.exe -vf crop=512:384,dsize=4/3,scale=320:240 %1 -o "C:\bb\%~n1.avi" -of avi -ofps 24 -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=320:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64

Maybe somebody could fine tune this a little more? I'm not really sure. I was just messing with this a little today and this is what i found. Hope somebody else finds it useful because i know i do. I'm surprised it hasn't come up yet. Let me know what you think.

Has anyone tried looking for these H264 files on torrents instead of converting them yourself? I tried, but no luck... I'm not sure if I'm looking the correct way... any suggestions?

Re: The Original: Video encoding for the 8100

The easiest thing I have found to put DVD movies on my Pearl is CloneDVD Mobile from Slysoft.com. It has a "BlackBerry Pearl" setting which makes it a "press one button" solution.

I use it in conjunction with Slysoft's AnyDVD to get past copy protection. There are similar programs out there that do the same thing, but I get free regular updates so as new copy protections are developed, AnyDVD improves get past them.

CloneDVD Mobile will join all the VOB files from a DVD into a single contiguous file. It takes about 30 minutes to put a 2 hour movie from DVD straight to the Pearl and usually within about 150 mb. That means you can fit about 8 movies on a 1 gb chip.

These are not free, I'm sorry. But Slysoft gives a 21 day full unrestricted trial. Both programs are around $70. After you buy the licenses, Slysoft will provide you with unlimited updates .
