The Good and The Bad of Messing With .Cod Files?

Decided to mess with the Blackberry .cod files to free up some space. Didnt delete anything major (as far as I could tell). The results:

    The Good:
Went from 6MBs free to 32MBs free
Major features work (for the most part)
    Reboot seems shorter

    The Bad:
No T mobile logo anymore when I reboot (unusual)
Themes wont load when you click to change theme (gotta use a longer process)
When I first started it up ended up with a black and white theme with some icons from previous themes (its called no theme)
Threw some registering problem error (that went away after two reboots)
    Freezes occasionally
Now I have to reload another OS to correct problems.

the only CODS ive had no problems with deleting were calender and VAD. you must of deleted the help or search CODs huh? never delete ANY zen themes either.

and something that could of saved you time and hassle is instead of deleting the whole file...just delete the d from '.cod'. that way you can always go add that d if you want that feature back or screws something up

Funny thing the only .cods I deleted were the VAD, themes besides zen, and all the preloaded media, and some other files (that were related to the media). Cant see why that would mess things up but anyways Im in the process of loading .108 OS and clearing some stuff. This time one at a time.

Did you also delete the Dimension Zen? That could be the thing that the other themes can't be loaded.

Nope I kept all the Zens. I heard you delete one of those it screws the phone up. Anyway I reloaded the OS and everything is working now minus the 32MB's of free space I had.

you only need the dimensions zen... it seems to be the base icon file. Without it you have no theme icons for some reason, even with other themes set. others can be removed.

I always just drag the files to a temp. folder to make sure there are no issues.

Okay I finished modding my .cod files.... I decided not to mess with the preloaded themes as those really are temperamental with the device. Anyway final outcome is good. Everything works perfectly and the device seems way faster. In all I went from 6Mbs to 32Mbs, thats a huge jump.

They are in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\<device software package name>\Java folder after you download and install the Device Software Package (Current or an upgrade if you desire) on your PC.
