I have an Alltel Blackberry Pearl 8130....there is a Cingular tower less than a half mile from my house. People with Cingular have excellent service at my house, I struggle to send/receive texts....what the ****?

Why would you think a Cingular Tower would help you?via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I thought I payed extra for no roaming charges...thinking that I would actually be able to roam to other towers.

Paying extra for not roaming doesn't mean you get extra boost. Alltel doesn't appear to have a agreement with Cingular which is why your not roaming on their tower.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

    soldier,

Cingular/AT&T is a GSM carrier, and Altel / Verizon is a CDMA carrier

These 2 networks and the associated devices are not compatible so there is no way your altel device will ever roam on an AT&T network, sorry.

Exactly! You would only be able to roam to Verizon or Sprint, not ATT or TMO.
