Question Tech Question (battery pull/device memory)

I read about battery pulls on here all the time. I was told to do a battery pull when I first purchased my Pearl because of text/call log being erased. So I check the device memory prior to battery pull and then after. There is a dramatic difference in the two numbers. Can someone please explain the signifigance of battery pulls, i.e. memory device and anything else a battery pull may solve? Ohhh and when is the new OS going to be here?

The battery pull essentially resets the phone which will:
    • close running programs that may be using memory
    • reclaim memory that was being used by a program(s) but was never 'given back'
    • reclaim memory from leak issues that so many are familiar with.
Since you have a Pearl, you can download this program and it does the same thing as a battery pull but without actually pulling the battery - it works great.

yea using "soft reset" is a great app but nothing is 100% like a battery pull. i like to do an actual batt pull every week just for good measure

Ok here is another question regarding device memory. When I check the status what number should I look for and say hey it's time to do a battery pull?

You're going to be looking for the current or free memory. If it gets below 10MB, it's time to pull the battery or reset it.

Did a battery pull and the number of bytes is:
    File Free: 10311732
    File Total: 50462720
    So translate this for me?

thats 10 mbs free space. you need to get that memory up to around 20mb after doing a battery pull.

File total is what the device has as the total memory, File free is what is left ver not in use. 10311732 is pretty low, you can go to Options>Advanced Options>Applications, and remove things you do not use. Sounds like you have alot loaded. or are not keeping your messages cleared out, Do you have a memory card in the device?? using the camera or putting ringtones on the device with out one eats alot of memory.
