Arrow Sugar Trick on White Pearl - Good Idea?

I used the sugar trick to scrub away the T-Mobile branding on the lower face of my black Pearl and want to do the same with my white Pearl. I'm afraid that the pearlescent finish may only be a surface finish, though, and that while rubbing off the T-Mobile branding I'll also be rubbing off the pearlescent finish. Has anybody tried it yet?

I say try a test spot. Like on the back lower corner or something. But good idea for the black one. I might give it a shot myself.

P.S. Id rather see the logo on the bottom than a black scratched up part.

Scratches are not a problem. As it has been discussed in this forum, they are easily removed. It's the logo I want gone.

My problem with retailers and manufacturers putting logos and emblems on phones is this:
    IT'S FREE ADVERTISING

They should be paying us to use their product if they load it up with THEIR advertising

When I bought my Saturn I had over 5 pieces of free advertising on it.

Just checked out the sugar rubbing instructions and I'm thinking 2000 grit wet sanding paper would do the trick as well. Although sugar is more readily available in most homes

Use an "Ink Eraser" which you should be able to buy at Staples. It should just be enough abrasive without doing the paint in. I've used the type on the pen's that look like pencils.

I tried it. Rubbed and rubbed and rubbed and rubbed, until I had rubbed the skin off my finger. Logo completely unaffected. Pearlescence completely unaffected (whew!). Leads me to believe that T-Mobile is using a different technique to apply it's brand name to the bottom of the phone.

The logo was not removed?... Odd. And you didn't get any scratches on your housing?... I wanna try this technique, but I'm worried of scratches.

Unless your selling the phone "unlocked".. I'm thinking the risk certainly outweighs the reward just to remove the logo. I'm certainly not into promoting TMobile or anything but I reall would not want to run the risk of dealing with removing scratches. Just my opinion...

Wouldn't it be better to buy a "blank" faceplate from RIM rather than trying to deal with the scratches?

This would likely take to long for most people to do and also would be riskier than the sugar thing because you would have to take the whole phone apart and this would risk breaking or losing something in the phone that could possibly mess the whole thing up completely.

If you decide to do this then post back and tell us about it.
