snow on my screen

My niece has a Blackberry Pearl 8100 and sent me the following problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? Blackberry wants $200 to fix it which is more than the phone cost.

I got a text message and went to open it and the left side of the screen looked like the snowy white noise stuff only in color. I scrolled the ball and then the whole screen was covered in it. I already talked to Blackberry and they said to take the battery out and put it back in, but that didn’t do anything, and then they sent me all the software updates and that didn’t help either. Sometimes if I don’t touch it for a few hours, when I turn it back on the screen is normal until I hit a button

    Anyone have any suggestions?

WOW, that is a wierd one, if the software was reloaded and the same issues is happening, then you need to call the carrier and see if it is under warranty. You could try a software reload WITH OUT a back up and restore, just make sure you do a sync first or a selective Back up and restore, Just address book and calander type stuff NOTHING else. Better a loss of some data then the device. I hope this helps!

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

If its under a year old should be warranty replacement. If older than year I would maybe look online for new one? The regular 8100 should run u less than 100$ used/refurb.

i'll have to ask her tonight. If it is, I'm assuming a complete wipe of the OS and a reinstall would fix it?

It should if you don't do a back up and restore.

you know, you didnt mention anything about the screen being cracked, so im assuming that ur niece or someone pressed on the screen too hard and crackd he lcd display from the inside, which is not common but, possible, if so then you should check out the net or i think there is a thread on here about how to take your bb apart and replace parts like the LCD. You could also check out youtube for that, it will show step by step instructions on how to replace the screen. hope this helps, reply back and tell me if thats the case, i may be able to help you out further.

Nothing I tried helped. I took it completely apart to verify whether it had gotten wet but there wasn't any sign of that either. I give up. It's going in the trash.
