    Question SIM Card contacts transfer

I have just got my first Blackberry, and would like to transfer all my contacts from my SIM card (in Sony Ericsson mobile) onto my Blackberry 8100.

I have just swapped the card from old phone to new blackberry but that didn't seem to work and I could not access the contacts on the SIM Card.

    Can someone help?

Hi Pickerings Welcome to the stacks.

Can the Sony sync with outlook? If so you could transfer your contacts to outlook and then to the blackberry.

    Open your address book.
    Hit the menu button.
Scroll down and select "SIM phone book"
Wait for the phone book to load to your screen. The more you have on your SIM the longer it will take.
Once the SIM phone book is on the screen, hit the menu button again.
Select "Copy all to address book"
Drink a nice cold glass of water.

Good luck. And welcome to the stacks.

    Re: SIM Card contacts transfer

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, i've already tried this.

The BB says loading SIM data as bar goes across screen and when finished "No Entries". When I press menu my only options are "new", "Switch application", "close".

I am coming to think that there must be something wrong with my phone, but therer can't be. Can there??

Is there something fundamental that I have not done?

    Can you help me more?

    Re: SIM Card contacts transfer

Sony phone cannot sync with Outlook as far as I am aware?

Have tried the normal routes of SIM phone book - download SIM - transfer to address book, but whilst the contacts seem to go across there is no end result. Really frustrating.

    Any other ideas?

    Re: SIM Card contacts transfer

The reason probably is because your sim doesn't have any numbers stored in them. Most phones store the numbers on the phone itself and not the sim. The reason being the sim phone book is very rudimentary. Only a space for a name (no first, last classification) and a space for the number. Does your sim have any phone numbers on it? If your old phone has the phone numbers of folks and it has more than one number per entry then the numbers are not on the sim but on the phone itself. Infuriating. I know. Happy manually typing them in. Just kidding.

PS: Your local carrier office can give you a SIM with your contacts loaded in it. But they'll probably charge you for it.
