Should get the Pearl or wait for the 8700g??

My Cingular contract is up Friday and I am going to switch to TMobile and a BB. Amazon has the best deals and I narrowed it down to the 8700g as the 8300s arent out yet. However I guess they're out of stock and they wont be shipping the 8700g's till the end of the June! They have the pearls instock though, should I give in to impatiance and order one of those instead? The camera would be nice but I think Id miss the qwerty keyboard like my Treo 650 has... Any other reasons I should wait it out??

    Thanks!

I can understand why 8700 might be out-of-stock, RIM is ramping up big for the release of the 8300. And... the 8300 is rumored to be released on ATT this Fri, 5/25. Lucky you... the day of your contract renewal, read the comments below this article:

You could also check out the return policy of the carrier (I believe TMO is 14 days), and take a Pearl for now and see if the 8300 is released in the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a gamble, but it just might happen to beat the release of the iPhone in June.

Amazon has been good to me with past transactions, but I have never returned a phone to them. Good luck...

I bought my Pearl from wirefly and I got it for free. They have the pearl for $50 right now and the 8700g is free. I had to return my son's phone because it sucked and they replaced it no hassel. Check them out I am happy I went through them. You have to agree to at least get the data plan for 6 months and of course the 2 year contract with T-mobile.

I cancelled my order on the 8700g, I checked them both out earlier at the Tmobile store and the 8100 just seemed better for a variety of reasons. Now I need to figure out whether to get it or hold out for the Curve, I wish there was a release date!

I have and 8700c, an 8100 and the new Curve. Each of these are nice models, however I certainly enjoy the Curve much more than either the 8700 or 8100.

My suggestion to you would be to find the patience to wait until you can get your hands on a Curve. By comparing it in the store to an 8100 you will get a much better idea of what works for you and how comfortable you are with the different sizes.

Now that Curves are out and shipping to O2 and Vodaphone in the UK, it's not going to be much more than just days until AT&T releases it in the US. I do believe that you will be very glad you waited.

    Cheers...

Thanks I'm planning on waiting right now, I just wish I new what the pricing would be. I am looking to go TMobile as their plan pricing seems the best so from my reading people are anticipating July...

T Mobile indeed has the best BB plans. At $20 a month for unlimited use including internet access with your laptop from what I can see they cant be beat.

TMO is nasty for the BB plan. But the 8700 is big!, the 8300 is big! If you want Wi-Fi wait till the 8120. But for now get the 8100! It is the same thing as a 8700, but with the suretype keyboard, rather then the qwerty full size. All the features are the same. the 8100 is perfect size!

I just read (sorry I forgot to capture the link) that the contract between Apple & AT&T dictates that Apple has a hand in setting up the pricing structure for iPhone specific data plans.

Despite the fact that the existing AT&T data plans will work with the iPhone as they do with the other smart phones that are already on the market and in the AT&T inventory, it appears that Apple wants it's name on a data plan just for their phone.

So while there is no need for a specific iPhone plan, apparently if this info is correct which I feel is quite probable, then there will indeed be a "iPhone data plan" that users must purchase along with the iPhone.

Then the real concern becomes pricing. Will it be fairly priced in relation to the other data plans? Or will we be expected to pay a premium price for data, just as there will be a premium price for the iPhone.

Once again, only time will tell.

    Cheers...
