    Sending and receiving ringtones

I have a buddy who has a pearl and I also have one. He has the 4.2.0.64 OS and I have the 4.2.0.71 OS. When he goes to his ringtone and selects send using bluetooth and I select receive using bluetooth it downloads and a 25 second ringtone ends up displaying as a minute + ringtone and it doesn't play. Is the operating system difference the problem? And yes we both had bluetooth on.

    thanks
    shane

shane - are you saving onto the media card? is it just this one ringtone, or have you tried several?

Does the ringtone your trying to send have a lock on? Ex. Did you buy it from your carrier's media downloads or make it yourself?

    Re: Sending and receiving ringtones

I have send ringtones to other people besides this guy and yes my ringtones are being saved to the media card. The other ringtones that I have sent were to people who have the Razr's though not another Pearl.

motorola razr's seem to need extra care when it comes to mp3 formats. i used to have to change it to mono & set it to 64k or somewhat (where my nokia n80 would accept 192k in stereo)... i can't remember the exact details but i had to make ringtones for my ex. i hope that answers your question.

I didn't have a problem sending them to the Razr. I had a problem sending the tones to another T-mobile Pearl. I have a cingular one.

ooh. my apologies. well, as i recall, i used to have a sony ericsson s700 & my buddy had an s700a or something. his was from rogers & mine was unlocked (debranded). mine could send and recieve all mp3 formats on bluetooth and his was a sitting duck. he had to pay $3 ea for a tone. it could be the branding =\

Not to hijack the thread, but what are all the ways to transfer files (ringers, mp3's, pics, themes, etc) from one pearl to another? Bluetooth, email, etc? I have a buddy with one that is always bumming files off me and I have been using coolservice.dk to post files and he downloads them later... gotta be a better way.

You can use bluetooth. It's a little tricky. More so than other phones.

Just make sure they are paired and make sure the sender is Sending Using Bluetooth.
and the receiver is Receiving Using Bluetooth.

Both are found under the Media, Ringtones/Music, Hit Menu

    hope that helps synik

    Re: Sending and receiving ringtones

yea it should work, as long as your pearl can see it. You should be able to send it or receive it.

    Re: Sending and receiving ringtones

I go to Media Net and under the home page they have a link to "Tones" and that is where I go to D/L the ringtones. I had a guys phone on Thursday which is a pearl like mine and has the same OS, I could D/L one tone and when I tried another the percentage went from 0% to 100" in a second and would say transfer failed. I tried about 5 different tones, so I don't know what the problem is..........we were paired I went to the tone and selected send using bluetooth and then I grabbed his and said receive. I even tried sending mine first then I tried again to hit the receive first before sending....I don't know.. any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Sending and receiving ringtones

i just did a trial for you, since we have two pearls here.

    • enabled bluetooth on both phones.
    • paired both phones.
    • navigated to media > ringtones > media card on both phones.
    • on the destination phone: menu > receive using bluetooth. the "file transfer - waiting for connection" dialog appears on the destination phone.
    • on the source phone: menu > send using bluetooth. the "select a device" dialog appears on the source phone.
    • chose blackberry 8100 on the source phone
    • chose yes on the destination phoen when asked "accept connection request from blackberry 8100?"
    • chose save when asked for the location to save the file.
    • the file transfer began. the file was transferred successfully

one thing i noted is that if the receiving phone is running AutoLock (by the guy that made colorpearl) and the screen turns off (thus locking the phone), you may get an error. choosing "receive using bluetooth" again and resending the file got things on the way.

thanks for the info. I did exactly like your wrote up there the other night. I guess I don't know what kind of protection he has on his phone, I know mine doesn't have any locks on it, but not sure about his. thanks
