SD Memory card does not work in my 8120

    Hello,

I recently switched from a nokia n75 to the pearl 8210 and wanted to use the same memory card i had in the nokia in the pearl. So i erased all the data from the card and put it in the pearl but it will not format the card to work with it. Can anybody steer me in the right direction? I would hate to have to buy a new memory card! Thank You for your time

Edit: And Yes, strong first post, i know.

    Hi and Welcome to Pinstack!

Here is what I would check first:
    1. Media Card Support is set to ON
    2. Device is not connected to your destkop with Mass Storage enabled
    3. Card is propery installed (this can be a bit tricky, there is at least one how to with pictures from Reddog you may want to look at)

first, Welcome to the Stacks! This site is full of Device Experts and BB guru's.

stupid question ut you are using a micro sd card yes? you mean you have a 8120??

i'm running 4.5 OS, so my steps may be different from what you may actually see......from home screen go to options --> media card --> make sure media card support is on, then menu button --> format card

or you may have to remove the card and just verify it is seated properly and locked in place.

    hope this helps

Yes, 8120. And i've set the support to on already and have tried the format button but it tells me "Media card format failed"

I'll take a look at the how to if i can find it. I've taken it out and put it back in a couple times so we'll see if maybe i'm doing something wrong. Thank you for your help.

Edit: Put it in and got message "Media card inserted" or similar but still doesn't format when i try.

I had that problem when I moved to my 8120. I had to format the card by PC first (I used a card reader) then I was able to get my BB to recognize it and format it. I fiddled around with it a while before it worked. Think I wound up having to format twice on pc first. Had just about given up and then suddenly it worked! So good luck :-)

If anything, you can go to newegg and buy an sd card for really cheap, just type micro sd cards into newegg.com search bar

How did I make it to work...

I had the same problem and finally made it work.

First, I tried to format using the format option from the menu within memory card options but it didn't work and gave the same error.

Second, I tried a card reader to format and it still didn't work. I think it didn't work because my microSD card was HC and the reader probably didn't support it. (don't know of any reason why it shouldn't through!)

Lastly, I inserted the card (as I was in earlier tries - the pins need to face towards the front of blackberry pearl 8120 and the cut on the card needs to face the top) and connected my bb to my PC (Running Windows XP). I opened File Explorer. My PC had detected the "Removable Disk". I right clicked on it and clicked on Format. It opened up the format dialog from which I started the format process.

After formatting the device, I moved some music files to it but my BB would still not recognize it.

I rebooted using the Power Off/On button and still no luck.

Finally I hard rebooted (take out the battery and insert it back in). It took a while (about 7-10 minutes) to bootup. After this bootup I went into media and found my music files and could play them too.

    Hope this helps.
