    run error 513

so today iw as fiddlin with my blackberry password feature to protect it from unlawful use.....worst mistaker ever.....well i set the feature that times out your cell for 1 minute if the PW is wrong 3 times in a row....so i decided to test it out.....well 3rd try i typed in wrong pw and phone went to a white screen with a bar filling up thsat said "wiping" i said that cant be good wtf kinda phone wipes it's memory for a wrong password????? so i then pulled the battery, then put it back in and powered it up ajnd a screen came on said "scrubing" with a little bar filling up and again im like hmm all over a miss entered pw my phone is wiping itself clean...well i couldnt do anything, and now after the bar filled up i get error 513 and all i can do is reset my phone thats it no homecreen no making or recieving calls...i hooked it to my laptop and started desktop manager to reinstall the OS, and my pc cant connect to my phone to do that!!

so what are my options? go to RIM's HQ shove it up their @ss for making a phone that clears itself and is useless if the pw is wrong, or is there a fix, and i hope there is.

    thanks very much in advance.

im running the new at&t OS btw....well was...

Ok skippy. That's why it's called a security feature. If someone steals your BB, and inputs a wrong password, it wipes your BB to SAVE YOUR INFO!~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Not really a dumb feature at all, it's good for those thieves who think they can get the best of you, if they steel it and attempt to access through the password and fail to insert the proper one, the phone will be wiped and become useless to them!!

In all due respect, What did think was going to happen??

p.s. I'm not sure what you have to do to restore it as it is USELESS (right now)

haha man and im the sucker who paid full retail for it a couple months back, so i have a $450 paper weight wow so if you forget your password, you can potentially ruin your phone? i seriously think that is stupid i know if i cant fix this, i will never again say anything good about bb's, i will go to a pda or windows based phone, its good but its also a scam hey if your bb is stolen dont worry no one can use it again, just come by a new one nice hustle they got goin on eh?

Really???? WOW!! Well call your carrier and tell them that someone (a child perhaps) was messing with your phone and they accidentally tried entering the password and wiped the phone..I'm sure there is a way, they have to have the PIN of your phone and ID on record...there has to be a way seeing as it IS YOUR PHONE!!

and sorry to hear about this, but BB's are the BEST PHONES OUT THERE (IMO), you just have to get to know the phone and its OS in order to love it.....but again, I'm sorry!! I hope you get it worked out, and I hope you stick with BB's.....You can't turn you back on them because of USER ERROR, it's not the phones fault =(

    tyayo,

You should be able to reinstall your operating system. If you are having problems with desktop manager connecting to your device here are a few suggestions....

Launch DM and Application Loader with the phone unplugged. Remove and reinsert the battery...AS SOON AS THE LED ON TOP LIGHTS connect the phone to the desktop and proceed. Give this a couple of tries, and if it does not work try the steps in this post:

And by the way this is indeed exactly what your device is designed to do for your security...here is the details on a 513 error from RIM

Problem:After typing an incorrect password ten times and restarting the BlackBerry smartphone, JVM error 513 appears.

Cause: All the data and applications have been deleted on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Resolution: Reinstall the BlackBerry® Device Software on the BlackBerry smartphone and restore the data from a backup file (if available).

Thanks for the help, unfortunately, it's not helping, nor letting me have the option to install a fresh OS.

did you buy your phone from a cell carrier, or off Ebay or something similar? Cuz if it's from a cellcarrier, you can get A NEW PHONE FREE if it's under warranty.

and why badmouth RIM for something YOU did to your phone? Didn't you read the help section before you enabled the password feature? Sheesh. Cuz like I'm gonna go pushing buttons on a $450 phone without reading about the buttons I'm preparing to push?

Why do you people keep forgetting that BB is primary BUSSINESS phone / mailing device?
And that for most of the bussiness something like information protection is on the top of priority list?

Device itself is not destroyed... but all potentially dangerous data on it is.

luckily i baught it from a carrier, id never pay 450 for a phone from ebay that i could buy from a carrier lol

ive had a cell phone for the past 8 years, so i didnt think i would have to read a book to see what button pushing would do, i never thaught a phone would wipe itself haha i guess it is a good feature in ways, but it does suck, idc as long as my phone gets fixed or something im happy.

no progress on the OS install, but i called the carrier and he gave me the tech support lines for cellular one and at&t so one should help me. I baught my phone from cell one back when they were open but at&t baught them out 2 months later,, so one of the 2 should help, i'll keep you guys posted, thanks for the help.
