    Reinstalling Firmware from scratch

    hi guys!!

I have been searching high and low to find a way to reinstall the Firmware for my BB pearl for a long time. unfortunately i have not been able to find anything concrete. Let me explain as to why i want to do this. Well the handheld is very very slow. Upon that most of the apps installed do not work or the handheld hangs when trying to run the app. i have tried the battery remove and reinsert method a number of times no go. i have updated to the latest OS given by my carrier, no go. I have wiped the handlheld twice and tried to wipe it using the JL-CMDER application. Yet the problem prevails. What I want to know is that do we have a method to completely format the BB handheld and reinstall the new OS. I am thinking that this is the only solution for the problems i am facing with my BB Pearl.

    help me pls!!!

    thanking you a lot

If you have done a wipe with JL Cmder (what do you mean by tried to wipe???) and a clean reinstall then you have indeed done a complete re-format. Time to look at other culprits. What OS version are you running and with what 3rd party apps? Use much media? (songs, vid's, etc) Do you have a micro SD card installed?

Lets see what we can do!

    Hi Garyf,

I have removed the batter and tried to wipe with the JL_CMDER SW. Nothing happens, i get a red screen and then the black screen.

no 3rd party apps. yup i have a 2gb card and have loads of music and vids on my bb.

I had removed the 2 gb card and inserted the org 64mb card.

    even that did not help.

    That was a fast reply.

    Lets check your memory usage:

    Options>Status>File Free=?
    ================================

I would suggest for starters you download one of the new Operating Systems (either .107 or .108) to your desktop and install. All you need to do is delete the vendor.alx file after you load it on your PC and you can use any 8100 OS for your pearl.

    Re: Reinstalling Firmware from scratch

First create a backup of your bb. Uninstall the handheld os from your PC and download the t-mo 4.2.1.107 software and install it delete the vendor.xml file then load it to your BB(When updating uncheck the option to not back your bb up cause you already have done that). Do not add anything other that the OS to your bb just yet and see if it still is causing problems. If it doesn't then go ahead and restore you bb from the backup you created at the start. If it cuases problems after you restore you backup then you know whats wrong

Good to know. the .107 OS seems to be stable and reliable, so you should have good luck with it.
