    hi i am new here....had a question
how do i read/save ANY type of document on blackberry pearl
~ here is what i am trying to do:
~ i want to put (a) document on my blackberry....it could be word, pdf, OR EVEN NOTE PAD, using my computer.
~ i DO NOT want to edit the document on the phone......just need to save .doc on my phone so i can view it.
    ~ i have a SD card.
~ i know how to transfer pictures, ringtones etc on to my SD card using my computer (BUT not any type of documents).
~ i do not have a data plan and i don't exchange emails on my phone.

pretty much all i want to do is copy text from my computer to my phone (anywhere on the phone...please state how if you know) so i can read it. any format will do as long as its free. please help. thanks

i believe this is impossible untill the new 4.5 OS update comes. Right now you can't put them on a memory card or the BB's memory.

You can only view them in emails, sorry!~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

If you sync with outlook you could create a note in outlook and do a sync and it will be then on your bb. That's what I'd do.

With buying a BB I was in need of a smart phone that I could edit office docs. The sales rep pointed me to BB pearl over the samsung's smart WiFi phone that has office included. He failed to tell me that I had to pay for the office program

To answer your question, email your .doc .pdf .xls file as an attachment and you can view it if on your cell. I think you need a data plan to get emails though.

A notepad document is viewable on the Blackberry. You need to place the plain text document (AKA Notepad document) somewhere in the media card. I put mine in a folder which I made alongside the Blackberry folder. After placing the document in the media card open your media explorer on your phone.

Press the menu button and select to "explore" the card. You'll find an explorer like interface. Navigate to your document and while it's highlighted press down on the trackball. The document will open.

The document can only show plain text and you cannot edit it. The document MUST have a .txt extension. All other extensions will make the bb go ga ga.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

also - just as a side note, if you really wanted to store other documents on your media card, you could always use the work around of putting them on your media card, and then emailing yourself from your BB, and attaching the documents.

    just a thought.

If you are trying to view documents such as word, office, or PDF there is a program available to do that and its free.

    www.mobipocket.com

Go to that link and download the Mobipocket Creator and the Mobipocket Reader to your PC. They are programs for your PC. After downloading those programs, hook up your BB to your PC with a USB and the program will recognize it and continue to install Mobipocket Reader Mobile after you allow it to.

With the Mobipocket Reader you can import any type of document and it will convert it so it is viewable on your BB.

If you prefer OTA download of mobile software go to m.mobipocket.com.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Edit:

Here is a direct link to the software download page.

I had the same desire, and Mobipocket worked for me as well. Just keep i mind that to read the files you must convert them via the desktop softwware form Mobipociet which works easy. Just remember to turn off Mass storage when syncing so data goes to your storage card not main memory. Read quiet well on this screen by the way.

yes it does and you can actually have it sent to Removable Disk which is your card. it should say the name of your device and the removable disk as options in the send to device drop down menu. so you can actually keep mass storage on and have it sent directly to your card.

Here is another (free) option. Its called MTextReader. You can get it from getjar.com. It is a bit unwieldy but you can set the left and right keys and then everything else is gravy. It only reads plain text files with the right extension. And you cannot edit the files. But its free and has support for bookmarks too.

Hope that helps someone. It did me!
