Question Questions about GPS on 8100

    Hello all,

First off I've just recently discovered this website and love it. Lots of resources and cool downloads available! Thanks for that!

    The problem I am having:

I do not have a data plan for my BB (laugh if you will) and my problem is with my GPS. When i first got my BB from Tmobile they forgot to turn on a feature called "Blackberry Enabler" which is a Tmobile specific thing that allows you to get picture messages and use IM without a data plan.
After I had the Enabler turned on i was able to use these and as well my BB Maps application also worked. I could go into the Maps, Options, and see two seperate "GPS Devices" there. One was a LG ______ and i forget the other. Anyway... My maps worked just fine for a while and I think somehow I deleted those "Gps devices". Now my maps does not work at all. Is there a way I can re-download one of these devices to my phone? I miss my maps

If you have an 8100 it does not have a GPS radio. Do you have a different model?

The GPS devices that you had seen in your list were from what you have bluetoothed to before. Just a thought BB maps might have only worked for a little while cause they added data to your device instead of adding just the enabler. They probably fixed the problem and limited you to only send MMS over it. Like I said just a thought. But the devices in your list were from what you have bluetoothed to

    I definitely have an 8100.

I have/had never connected to a bluetooth device other than my earpiece and the occasional phone to share a ringtone.

Just thought i'd ask. You're probably spot on about them during on data for a bit, i'd bet thats what it was.

Not sure about the devices listed, but Gary is right that the 8100 lacks the GPS radio completely. BB Maps, like most others, will use cell-site triangulation to find you if GPS isn't available, so for whatever short time you had a data connection, that's likely what it was doing.

From my understanding every bluetooth device you connect to will show up in the GPS list because it can share a GPS if they have one

Yeah Jeff, semi so, I think, I mean I have seen my wifes phone on mine (she has gps on her 8310, but have not seen my daughters phone who doesnt have gps, nor did I see one set of bluetoooth headphones, yet I did see another lol.. It all very strange..

If you go to gps settings an your phone, and you dont see "device gps" in the list then you dont have gps..

But you may see other listings.

Of course I remeber another person on here claiming he lost his gps on an 8100 when he did an update to the OS
