    Question About Wiping Out Handheld

    Hi,

I have a Pearl that I am planning on selling and/or giving away. I was wondering if I were to incorrectly enter the password 10 times, whether it would restore it to factory settings or it would perma-lock my phone. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yeah if you're giving it away

But to answer you question imputing the password in 10 times will wipe all your personal data. Address Book, Calendar, Tasks, Notes, everything that is personal.

I'm not sure it will delete 3rd party apps or not. But all your personal info will be deleted.
    Hope that helps.

EDIT: If you really want to make sure nothing is on the device, just jl-cmder and it will take everything off for sure and then you can load the OS and that will be set back to factory for sure.

Reddog, it won't perma-lock it though, right? That's my main concern...

Here you go. Sorry, wrong device

    1.) Click on "Options" icon
2.) Select "Security Options" from menu
2.) Select "General Settings" from menu
3.) From General Settings window, press Menu key (left of tracker ball)
4.) Select "Wipe Handheld" from menu

i would just wipe the handheld from the security options...
that will restore your blackberry to factory settings

    options/security options/general settings
    then choose menu/wipe handheld

jl_cmder takes EVERYTHING off, including the OS...so you would have to reinstall the OS if you want the person you are selling/giving to be able to use it

Thanks everyone. By the way, I'm going to give the phone to my sister. Lol, I'm trying to get her into bb's.

Or...as a bit of trivia.... you can SCRUB the device....if you go into OPTIONS>SECURITY OPTIONS>GENERAL SETTINGS and enable Content Protection, then you hit MENU and WIPE HANDHELD it will perform a SCRUB of all files and setttings...the BB will overwrite all of your old data....BEWARE this can take HOURS to complete and CANNOT be stopped. But your sister will never find those incriminating emails or photos .

Re: Question About Wiping Out Handheld

I wiped my Pearl about 20 minutes ago to clear up a calendar problem (which it did, works great now!). Very easy to do, used the options>security>...wipe that was mentioned above and it works just fine. Very easy to do, restores the factory settings. There was an option to check to wipe all 3rd party apps, I didn't and it kept my gmail and gridmagic app after it powered back up. In my case I restored my backup so I'm back to normal with no problems.
