Hello stackers! Right to the point... for my BB internet to work my "OPTIONS>ADVANCED OPTIONS>TCP" ... BlackBerry Pearl forum
Question about Opera Mini and APN...
Hello stackers! Right to the point... for my BB internet to work my "OPTIONS>ADVANCED OPTIONS>TCP" was set up like this...
Username for APN: eplus
Password for APN: wap
... in order to get Opera Mini to finish installing and therefore work, I had to change my settings to look like this...
Username for APN: eplus
Password for APN: gprs
... now I can do everything else that I could do before like surf the internet, emails, and stuff, only now Opera Mini works (which is WAY faster than the default browser!). Anyways, since I changed my default settings am I still covered under my unlimited plan? Reason I ask is I ran by another thread over at crackberry's forums and this is what was said...
cyba.cowboy---Opera Mini can't use the BlackBerry access point and therefore is not included in the "unlimited" part of one's plan, mine included.---
Should I give my provider a call and ask if changing this is ok or is this a simple answer since I have an unlimited plan. Any help would be appreciated!
Who is your carrier? (you might want to add that info to your profile as well)
oops, sorry! My provider is BASE which is part of Eplus. I'm located in Germany.
(fixing my profile...)
EDIT: I've been surfing around trying to find stuff about this and I found a couple of posts about this. Here is what a poster over at the Opera forums told a O2 user about the same question I had...
"Ought to point out that by so doing you will incur data charges from O2 on top of the fee you already pay for unlimited internet usage on the Blackberry plan, because when you use Opera to connect you're not using the Blackberry servers any more.
This is a considerable problem to anyone wanting to avoid using the frankly appalling BB browser who (rightly) doesn't see why they should have to pay to use a different browser, but for some reason Opera just doesn't work on the Blackberry data services. It's odd, because Google Maps (for instance) does work on the Blackberry data services, as shown by me using them all the time and never incurring a charge.
I try to use Opera and it won't work. I enter the O2 data settings, it works, and I get charged MASSIVE data costs.
Unfortunately nobody at Opera or RIM will 'fess up to why it is that Opera doesn't play nice with the Blackberry data services."
