ok so i've read couple of things about this in the forum but this is my situation: i was a bb 8100 user and got a brand new 8120 along with my friend (not on the same plan) i didnt have a data plan, and still dont, and was able to use my aim well. when i purchased the phone i told the person at the local tmobile store that aim wasnt working on my new device, he said to call tmobile i did and explain my situation, they just did a quick check did somethin with the network i reseted my phone and bam! it was workin and is still workin

problem: my friend's service is not they keep tellin him he needs a data plan to make it work because of some stupid crap(msgs trought aim not being considered as sms or somethin like that) what can we do? and why am i still able to use my aim!!!???

ill like to know this thanks

Keep trying to call back and get a different CSR and see if they can help you out.
Just be polite keep your cool and T-Mobile should help.

What IM programs are you running? he may be trying to run one that relies on Data...if so it wont work. You may be running one that relies on SMS in which case yours should work.

I would also check your bill, like NOW, to make sure that you are racking up data charges. Some CSR wont care---if they can make more money off of you then they can. They may have also activated the data plan thinking that's what you wanted.

Just check your bill to make sure that you aren't being charged for anything.

TMO offers OZ Messenger, which supports AIM (among others) and uses SMS for IM's. That is likely the app mister8 is using....there is no mention if the freind is also on TMO, if so, call CSR and ask them to add the Blackberry Feature Eanbler ( you may be able to do this on the MYTmobile web page as well). And that should push the OZ app to the phone.

in order for you're aim to work on blackberry pearl 8120 u have to call t-mobile so they can send you the aim service books.. i had the same problem they kept telling me i needed a data plan which isn't true. keep calling because some of the people in the t-mobile blackberry department are just lazy and don't want to do send out the service books its easier for them just to add the data plan then to phone. good luck
