    Problem with 2.5mm - 3.5mm headphone jack

I bought some Sennheiser ear canal earphones from Amazon but seeing as they're 3.5mm I needed a 2.5mm - 3.5mm convertor. However, whenever using this set up to listen to music sound only comes out of the right earphone. What's more whenever I plug in or unplug the earphones the Voice Dailing program starts up.

At first I thought it might be that the seal on the convertor was a bit dodgy and only one channel was getting through but I've just bought a new convertor and I'm having the same problem.

    Any ideas?

P.S. I'm not a fan of the default earphones that come with the Pearl as they don't fit my ears properly, hence why I plumped for the Sennheiser (which are amazing by the way).

The 2.5 - 3.5 mm headphone jack conversion is a sore subject for a lot of people!

From what I understand, the Pearl is a bit picky with these. Some work, some don't. I've heard some people having good luck with one from Radio Shack (the part number is in another thread somewhere). Also, I've heard that if you get a working converter, plugging the headphones into the converter and then into the pearl eliminates the voice dialing problem.

I also know thw that seidio sells a converter for the Pearl and have heard that it works quite well.

    Good luck!

You can't use a run of the mill 2.5-3.5 converter, you have to use one specially designed for the blackberry Pearl ( not sure if these adapters work with all blackberrys or just the pearl), there are two that are compatible and shouldn't give you problems and they are both available in the pinstack shop. for like $10-$15

    Hope this was helpful

the pearl uses a 4ring jack design, one of them being for the mic and voice-activated dialing, while the other three are the two stereo channels and ground.

Good info anfrey. I always wondered what was so special about it.

Guess you have to find a conversion jack that matches this standard.

aye... most ministereos are 3 ring: two audio channels and a ground

this is why it's so hard to find a working adaptor.

    As posted above,

Buy the Seidio adapter for $10. It works like a charm...and for $10, what a deal.

Cheers for the help guys! Being from the UK I got charged over $30 in shipping fees bringing the total to $56.85. Oh well, at least I can actually listen to music properly and not through just one earphone.

wow, im glad somebody is having some luck, ive tried every adapter i can get my hands on and im always getting sound out of just one speaker. the last one i tried was from seido and still only one side. it kinda hurt my feelings too cause i was wanting to use it as an mp3 player in my car sometimes as opposed to just going out and buying one.

I can't tell you how it will work in your car system, but our adapter was made specifically for the Pearl. If yours is defective, please email me and I'll make sure you get a replacement. Also remember that you need to plug the adapter to the headphones first before you insert it into the Pearl.

    Thanks,
