Press the pearl, make an emergency call

Ok, a couple of searches and a pocket emergency call later, my first post is:

Is there any way to disable the emergency call while the key lock is on? It seems that whenever the "keypad is locked" message isn't displayed, pressing down on the trackball give a "handheld is locked" message followed by unlock, emergency call and cancel. I don't need any more pocket calls to emergency services and I seriously doubt that any time saved by that menu will make a difference in a real emergency. Any ideas out there?

    Welcome to Pinstack!
You can't disable that, but what if you put it in standby mode? hold the mute button down, it will only come out of stand by if you hit the mute button again

It will also come out of standby mode if you hold down the red button for a few seconds, but that isn't as bad as calling 911 on accident.

I haven't used the keyboard lock feature once since I started using standby mode. It is definitely the best choice you have as far as I'm concerned.

I have had trouble answering a ringing pearl in standby mode. So I only use the keyboard lock.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Your phone will ring and give all the normal message notifications that you have set up. it basically just disables the keyboard and saves on battery usage.

    hey Russ.

I have emailed RIM and suggested that they make this a removeable feature.

    you should do the same.

this emergency call from KB lock is a STUPID STUPID STUPID feature. this topic has been beaten to death on here, and I know many people on here think I am wrong. But I don't care.

They should just change it. I think it would be best if you could just dial 911 while the keys are locked. There shouldn't be a menu that is so easily accessible with the pearl that sticks out and gets hit while in your pocket. Everyone knows the emergency number in their country. You should just be able to dial it and call even though your keys are locked. That's what my sony ericsson did.

Re: Press the pearl, make an emergency call

I haven't experienced a emergency call like that yet... but I've only had my blackberry for about 6 weeks. I found the standby much easier, but I'm not sure if its that, or some other issue, but after i started to use it, it seems like my battery is dying much faster. When I solely used the keyboard lock, I wouldn't need to charge for nearly 4 days (I'm a very light user) but after I started to use the standby, it seems like I need to charge my phone nearly every day. It would be near 100% at the start of the day and nearly 20% by midnight. Anyone else experiencing this?

EXACTLY.........Emergency services made the 9-1-1 number for the public because it's easy to remember and easy to dial.

I had an old Audiovox handset, and it wouldn't let you store 9-1-1. I never tried, but I had an old Motorola that had the same feature. Because they don't want people storeing 911 and setting speed dial keys. Too many people making deaf calls to 911 and tieing up the system.

RIM, shame on you and shame on the people that think this is a good feature.

Re: Press the pearl, make an emergency call

I have found if you use both, you dont' make emergency calls on accident, and you won't have trouble answering (like when only in standby mode).

    ...that is all....
