Ok, basically to increase image quality you must adjust tonal range and color balance.
BB images sometimes are very 'poor' so you must use the Levels dialog (Photoshop-payware, Gimp -freeware, Corel Photopaint-payware...) correct the tonal range and color balance of an image.
Don't ask me why, but BB camera usually overexpose 99% of shots.
So BB images level's histogram are as displayed (image A):
To have a correct tonal range (image B) read this:
An example, image (you'll find the original in this thread) retouched with Gimp:
