Please help me before i go crazy!!!!

I'm a new Red Pearl user. I setup my work email with exchange to download to my pearl. No problems there! BUT... i cannot get it to sync back with it and delete back and forth. It won't with anything like the calendar, memos, tasks, etc unless i sync with the cord and do it manually. I downloaded the redirector, have that set up and still NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, now i am getting 2 emails for each message onto my Pearl. I'm about to go crazy. I just wanted a simple setup and it's been 31 days now and i still don't have it figured out. Oh and i also get a copy of every SMS text message and email i send as a NEW message.

    Can someone help me?

    Welcome to PinStack AudreaTrawick.

I don't know much about re-director so really can't help you with this problem, but someone will come along and help.
Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with your BlackBerry.

About getting the messages that you sent, you can do a hide sent messages under options when in emails on your bb.

I have not used the redirector in years but that requires the pc running redirector to be up all the time. Does your job have a BES?

hmmm...many problems....lets see where we can start?
Please confirm you are working with BES (Exchange) and not BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)? If BES is your company IT department BBerry savy?

You probably dont need redirector (I suspect that is why you get 2 copies of everything). If you are trying to sync Outlook thru the desktop manager you have to configure the sync manager. Are you copying yourself on your outbound emails? There are ways to stop that once we determine why it is happening....

    Hi Gary....

Please confirm you are working with BES (Exchange) and not BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)? If BES is your company IT department BBerry savy? I am not sure if it's Blackberry Exchange but we are running an exchange server. At first, the Cingular support person helped me set it up without the BES (i think). I was only getting emails to my BB and sending with my BB, then syncing by using the cord with my computer and the desktop manager. I THOUGHT that i'd be able to wireless reconcile my email, calendar, tasks, etc. so i called back and they told me that i could do it using REDIRECTOR. So, i uninstalled it and reinstalled by the directions and setup the REDIRECTOR. Now, i'm getting 2 emails on my work (exchange) and my gmail. Well, actually some i get duplicated and some i don't. But, the duplicates started once i reinstalled and loaded the redirector. Our IT guy is a *#! so i'm not asking him. But, my father owns the company so there are no issues with me downloading whatever is needed to my computer. Oh, and i leave my computer running at all times.

You probably dont need redirector (I suspect that is why you get 2 copies of everything). If you are trying to sync Outlook thru the desktop manager you have to configure the sync manager. Are you copying yourself on your outbound emails? There are ways to stop that once we determine why it is happening.... i thought i did configure the sync manager but after i reinstalled, maybe i didn't.

All i know is that i've tried turning off and on every freakin thing there is possible and it works for most people here on the forum but not for me. I have STILL NEVER wirelessly reconciled my email (outlook exchange one only-not the gmail) and i've never gotton the calendar, etc to give me updates wireless.

I'm really feeling like i'm crazy because i'm pretty savvy on these things or i'm smart enough to search it out and troubleshoot it. But, this one....nobody at cingular can tell me either.

Oh and i also get a SMS text message every time i send a SMS text. It's an exact copy as if i cc'd myself, not like telling me it's sent. I get a freakin copy of everything i send!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for ANY help you can give me!!!!!!!!

Re: Please help me before i go crazy!!!!

    AT,

Sorry to say I am not much help with BES or redirector, (nor do I have any idea why it is better or costs more) hopefully someone will jump in that is better in that area, and yes as I understand it using BES you should be able to wireless sync and reconcile. I have used BIS with email that was over an exchange server with no problem. I will do a little research and see if I can find anything helpful.
I sync my Outlook using desktop manager and the usb cable. Now when you send a SMS you should see the message with a little check mark by it that shows it was sent - from what I am reading you are getting a second copy back - thats just wrong .

Re: Please help me before i go crazy!!!!

I found this -- see if it is helpful :-)

Blackberry Enterprise Server has 3 Implementation Schemes:
    • Blackberry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
    • Blackberry Enterprise Server for Lotus/IBM Notes
    • Blackberry Enterprise Server for Novell Groupwise
Each of these products require different procedures in order to properly configure them.

Blackberry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange Prerequisites:
    • Microsoft Active Directory Environment (with DNS working correctly)
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5/2000/2003
    • SQL Server (Not required, but better in larger deployments. BES includes the MSDE 2000)
    Recommendations:
    • Do not install BES on an Active Directory Domain Controller. The BES service account requires local administrator access to the computer it is running on and because Domain Controllers do not have local groups, when the BesAdmin account is given the "Send As" permission, permissions are revoked because of membership in protected groups. See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 912918[1].
    • Do not install BES on an Exchange Server. Microsoft Exchange requires a lot of power and it's best to separate it from your BES.
    • Avoid installing BES on a Microsoft Small Business Server 200x server. There are many complications because SBS is both a Domain Controller and an Exchange Server (even a SQL server in some cases).
    • FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS. If you read and follow the installation instructions from start to finish, you shouldn't have any trouble installing the software and should be up and running right away. Don't skip steps.

Re: Please help me before i go crazy!!!!

Thanks Gary! Am i understanding that BES is something that we'd have to install on our Exchange Server? And is this the ONLY way that i will be able to wireless sync to reconcile? But, i'm still having problems other than that so i'm wondering if my pearl has problems....like choosing to hide sent messages doesn't hide anything. I STILL get everything i send!!!!!!! And if i cannot get automatic calendar changes, the BB is worthless to me. I bought it so i could be working while at home or out when i'm with my kids. So, which direction should i go from here b/c i don't completely understand the BIS vs. BES. I was given detailed instructions from the Cingular support person that the Redirector would do everything i need without having BES. So, what am i doing wrong with the redirector? when i loaded it, i couldn't tell any difference except doubled emails.......... i'm just soooooo confused!!!!!!!

    i hope this made sense.

oh and yes Gary, my SMS or email "copies" i get do not have a check mark next to them. I send the message (sms or emails), hit send, lay my phone down and VOILA it will beep telling me i have a new message............BUT when i click on my little envelope icon, it's a new message from MEEEEEEEEEE!!!! So irritating. It has the yellow envelope beside it and everything! After i open it, it shows as an opened message. So, when i go and choose HIDE sent messages, it doesn't work for me because i'm not really getting the sent messages like i'm supposed to anyway.

So, should i do a clean uninstall and start over? what do you think?

And is my ONLY option to get wireless reconcile by using a BES? if so, i just need to get that added i guess. I was trying to accomplish it without it like the Cingular support person said i could.

I really think the only thing the redirector is doing is forwarding another copy of your emails to you. If you uninstall it I bet the duplicates will stop. And yes, I beleive that you must purchase and install BES on your server to use this service (sorry)...if the wireless calender sync is critical you might look for a BES Hosting service - I have read that you can get this for around $25/month....if you can live with the email service and hard syncing to your desktop for calend, tasks, etc change to BIS service.

    Hope this helps.

I have the feeling the sms problem is also from redirector - try running without and see what happens....

the sms was happening before redirector was loaded. What does it take to get the BES? is it free to install and is my IT guy going to have to do alot of work? Because i don't want to deal with that right now. Yet, I want current updates on the calendar, etc. So, what would you do if you were me?

Since you are the only BB user I would try and install the "free" Enterprise Server Express and see if your guy can handle setting it up.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ To avoid all of this headache, I would just continue to use the BIS and uninstall the Redirector. I tried to configure it to push my college's email to my BB and it was a hassle. I never got it done.

What I do for my calendar, tasks, etc is just to back them up using the Desktop Manager's Backup/Restore function. You will only be able to read your email on the BB but you can forward it to a desktop client, such as Google or Yahoo and have it there.
