    Well my best advice is maybe call into customer service. Wait till morning hopefully someone else will see this thread and lend a helping hand. It's late and nobody will see this till morning. Hope it all works out.

    You can't restore since you don't have a file to restore from. Sorry

    Just remember when you get everything up and running again backup, backup, backup.

    well, the sms # of my carrier hasn't changed (that i am aware of)..it all worked fine yesterday..then just suddenly stopped. and yes i can receive everything (and send mms) i just cant send sms.

    Random thought .. do you have a '+' before the service center number? eg. +1xxxxxxxxx ?

    I too am on cingular (now AT&T), Here are my SMS Text settings (works fine for me)

    Disable Autotext = NO
    Leave mssgs .... = NO
    Data Coding = 7 bit (no idea what this is!)
    Service Center = +1xxxxxxxxxx
    Network To Send Over = GSM (wonder if this setting matters?!)
    Number of prev .. = 7 (default i blv)

    Do you have a similar setup ?

    Yes, this error is caused by not having a + before the Service center number.

    Set the Service Center at Options > SMS

    That should do it.

    [Edit] Something else to verify is the option Network to send over. I've gotten calls from folks in the past here at work who couldn't send SMS and they had GRPS set instead of GSM. Setting it back to GSM fixed the problem. But again keep in mind that this is for T-Mobile. Cingular/AT&T might have different settings so check with them.

    This happened to me before. When I called customer service, they had to release the "block" so to speak like they do for international calling. She said my account was not optioned to use SMS; when she "optioned" it; I had instantly. Same problem as yours? I don't know.
