    Phone on data off?

    Guys,

Is there anyway to switch the email off and just have normal phone capabilities? I'm going NYC next week and don't want to have to pay for email but would like to still have a phone in case of emergencies.

    Cheers

    Yep...

Go to Options then Network...At the top you will see where you can change Data Services from on to off and vice versa.

You're lucky to have a Pearl! Only 4.2 OS has this option.

Remember: when you turn off the data, the signal will only display GSM.

You will also still be able to use SMS, but not MMS.

Surely this does not mean you can turn on and off the data service and your provider charge you in a prorated fashion? Just want to make sure.

One of the 4.1 OS for the 8700's also have this option. Or maybe its the 8707/8700 hybrid OS. Can't remember. But that one and the 4.2 OS are the only ones I know of.

Oh. And no way they are going to prorate.

I can turn my data off on my 8700g. i have never loaded an 8707 OS on it, so it should be an option on most any 8700.

I have used it when I go on a plane.

I have the os for the 8707 (.355). I don't see any way to shut data off.

Not sure which one it is. Its either one of the 8700 OS (Maybe Telstra?). Not sure...I know that it had it because Shawn (Pentace) pointed it out to me months ago when the OS was first released and we loaded it...
