Phone #6....Volume Broken AND Out Of Warranty

I am on my 6th (Yes, 6th) BlackBerry in 14 months...I am having the problem with the volume. It goes down, but doesn't go up...I've attempted to make it work on the handsfree, Bluetooth, and speakerphone, all to no avail. The T-Mobile rep told me to reinstall the software, and that didn't work. I've followed instructions given up here (Default Volume 100%) and that didn't work either. I am BEYOND frustrated with this issue and not happy with this phone anymore...They say that I'm outside of my warranty, it ended in December (Go Figure) ...and asked me if I wanted to upgrade...I paid way too much for this phone when it first came out, and I'm not dishing out any more $ for a phone. I don't know what to do at this point...any suggestions?

So does the up button not work? Or does the volume slider move up and down but no volume change? If you've already tried another OS, I sounds like a device problem. If you're out of warrantee I'm not sure what your options are but to upgrade phones, or try to find one on ebay. You've done all the troubleshooting I would do.

So if you have been getting refurbs each time, the last one would have extended your year warranty 90 more days. (that's if you got a refurb after beginning of October

\Sounds like a hardware issue to me. I think I'd try something novel with Tmob: See if they'll cut you a deal on a different phone entirely. You've got to be sick of returning Pearls and they've got to be sick of talking to you!

Re: Phone #6....Volume Broken AND Out Of Warranty

Well, the 1st phone that was replaced was my fault. It fell out my pocket and a Jeep parked on top of it. The 2nd one I received as a replacement didn't have the correct software on it so they replaced that one. The 3rd one didn't have myFaves on it, the 4th one kept rebooting itself, and the 5th one wouldn't connect to the internet for longer than 2 minutes. The 5th one I received in August, so my 90 days were up in December. It sucks that all my replacements were refurbs. The problem with the button is that it only turns the volume down. The speaker is ok. When I first called tmobile I thought their customer service was great, because they empathize with you. But, when you've called as much as I have, you see its totally scripted. I could say a dog pissed on my phone and they'll respond "I know how frustrating it must be to have a dog urinate on your phone"....its like they have a paper that says "(insert problem here)" :-(

Re: Phone #6....Volume Broken AND Out Of Warranty

So....I went to the T-Mobile store and we called Customer Service from there. They tried to get me to upgrade, where I told them I'm not paying $250 for a curve and I haven't even had my phone that long. So the gentleman on the phone says, "I understand your frustration. They have a curve available for 349.99 with 2 $50 mail-in rebates" .....They then transferred me to Asurion, where the woman there told me to do a master reset on my phone. I told her I'm not resetting my phone, because I've already reinstalled the OS. She confirmed that with the T-Mobile guy, then told me that I would have to pay my deductible in order to get my phone. So now the thought just lingers in my head....This woman asked me to pay after I (almost) wiped all the info off my phone...I couldn't see that situation ending well...SO.....I'm still with a broken phone, and not much happier...I think I'll call T-Mobile again...seeing as how they can understand how frustrating it can be to be so frustrated.

Just one quick question......does it feel like there is a button or some mechanical response when you press the up button on the volume? If not, you can probably just get someone who is technically inclined with electronics to check the solder connections on the physical button on the board. It may have lifted.

Sometimes, when I press up, the volume goes down. Other times, it has no reaction at all. If the phone is dim and I press the up button it will not light up like it will if I press any other key.

Those sound like the key has actually come off of the board. Usually (if it didn't take the board contacts with it) you can resolder the switch back down to the board with no issues provided you have the skill and a small enough soldering tip to keep the pins seperated.
