Post Pearl keypad/trackball not functioning correctly

Hello Pinstackers! I have a problem with my wife's BB Pearl 8100 (T-Mobile), and I was hoping you could help. I fear it may be a mechanical problem with the keypad/trackball, but I thought I'd put the problem out there for you first. Either way, thanks!

Today, the keyboard and trackball suddenly stopped functioning correctly. Here's an illustration of the keypad problem:
    • When I type the word "hello", it produces "heglglo".
    • When I type "This phone sucks", I actually get "Yghish phone sicbja".
    • Also, the trackball will go through several minutes where I can't click.
There was no "event" that caused the problem. And, the problem starts and stops. I tried a soft reset, hard reset, and eventually I wiped the phone. Even after a wipe, the problem persists.

    Is this a fixable problem?

FYI-- I did try and search for this problem on the forums, but I didn't know what keywords to search for. I couldn't really find anything... Sorry if this is a repeat.

    Thanks,
    Juse

Does she put it in her purse where dust or lint might get lodged in it?

I dont have a clue to your problem, only that you should see if you can get a warranty replcement or fix...

BTW a hard reset and wipe are the same thing...

A hard reset and wipe are not the same.... Hard reset reboots the phone. A wipe restored it to factory settings the way you took it out of the box

Hard reset-taking the battery out and leaving it on (or turning it off) for 30 seconds.
Wiping the phone-erasing all user data so the phone is like new (aka brand new when first received)

Yes she keeps it in her purse, so I suppose lint could get inside. How would we clean it out? Pressurized air?

You could use that. But there on threads on here for the taking apart and cleaning of the trackball. It might also be wise to get her some type of pouch to keep it in if this in fact is the problem
