    pearl dead?

hey guys, new the forums, hopefully you can help out.

i was doing an update on the pearl, actually unlocking the themes following the instructions, and it was going through the apploader, it was in the process of removing applications, then it stopped midway, and said it could not load the jvm or something along those lines...now all i get out of my phone is the LED blinking RED twice in a row every 3 seconds. Taking the battery out and putting it back in does not work... any ideas?

    Re: pearl dead?

Hi and welcome to the stacks...

Does Desktop manager show you are connected or disconnected? If so try these steps:

How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected
Problem: When trying to re-install an operating system that constantly intializes, Desktop Manager will not recognize the device.

    Solution: The following walkthough!

Thank you to Pentace for this excellent walkthough:

FYI this will work for any handheld that constantly initializes.. aka the hourglass of doom.

    1. Install the desktop software.
    2. Install the handheld software. (If it is a non Vendor software.. exp. T-Mobile. search and delete the "vendor.xml" file.)
    3. Pull the battery out of your device.
    4. With the battery out connect the device to the computer.
    5. Go to Options and select "connection settings"
    6. Select USB PIN this may take a few moments since there is no battery in the device. you might even have to select detect device in some rare cases.
    7. Select the application loader icon.
    8. Select all software you want installed.
    9. Proceed to the end portion untill you see the "Finish" button.
    10. Very IMPORTANT. do not hit the finish button, instead select the ADVANCED button.
    11. Make sure both boxes are checked.
    12. Proceed until it asks you if you want to automatically back up and restore. Select DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP MY HANDHELD.
    13. Once the process starts. take care not to bump out the cord and re-insert the battery. Again on some rare occasions you might have to wait until it finishes saying connect to insert the battery.

THIS MAY FAIL THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME DONT WORRY JUST KEEP TRYING.

If you do not get it by the 3rd time.. download the Blackberry java developers kit and install it. once installed find the javaloader.exe file and move it into the c:\ directory

Once it is under the c:\, go to start then run and type. cmd.exe

After the command prompt apears type in "c:\javaloader -usb wipe" to wipe the handheld

*The reason I have highlighted Step 13 is that this is very important to do BEFORE the DM tries to re-start your device because it WILL NOT re-intialize your device IF THE BATTERY IS NOT IN YOUR DEVICE

    Re: pearl dead?

thanks for that, i've tried that numerous times and for me it doesnt work. it doesnt detect the USB. I called my carrier and they said apparently my phone died during the operation and told me to plug it into the wall and try turning it on afterwards. What im scared is, it died while it was "deleting applications". but i'm going home right now, hopefully i can try it out after i plug it into the wall..

    keep u guys posted

Let us know but I have been in the same situation and it took a few tries but this usually works. Make sure you are following the instructions exactly.

    Where is it failing now?

    Re: pearl dead?

okay, so i took the battery out, went to connection settings, tried to find it with usb and it didnt recognize it :s..

i called my carrier and they said plug it into the wall for 20 mins, so im just doing that right now. while i was updating the phone crashed...while it was on the "delete apps" phase..so im scared. but they said the phone crashed cuz it had low battery, but it clearly had 80% battery life remaining. i dunno. sorry for bad sentence structure im just really frazzled right now

    Re: pearl dead?

I GOT IT!!! I called my Carrier (Rogers) and the guy directed me to the tech support site and i went thru the steps of looking up the pearl. then i downloaded the v4.2.1 handheld code for the pearl, installed it, plugged the pearl into the computer and it found it. Here was the trick tho, first time through, the same error occured, then the usb reconnected and i went through the apploader again, finally it went through. so good thing i have a backup of the file b4 i went to update the phone so i saved my friends emails.

all in all, i was doing this as a favour for a friend of mine (trying to unlock all the pearl themes) then it broke down on me, called Rogers tech support twice cuz the first guy was no help. But i'd like to thank everyone who replied especially Gary F,

so if u guys have the same problem, try going to rogersDOTCOM/techsupport , look up blackberry and on the right hand side, it shud say v4.2.1 handheld code for pearl

mind you this is for rogers, your own carrier might have their own.

    cheers!
