    Pearl Autolocking

I have a Pearl, and I've seen the Autolock program that locks your keyboard when the light goes off. However, it seems that the security function already does that. When I set a password, it locks the keyboard as soon as the backlight goes off.

I'm assuming that there was an OS change that added that functionality at some point.

That's well and good, but I'd really much rather it allowed me to chose when I want to lock the keyboard. If the phone is sitting beside me on the couch, I'd rather it NOT lock every 60 seconds. I'd like it to stay unlocked unless I use the Lock icon. On the other hand, if I'm at work I'd love to have it lock as soon as I set it down in case I forget to lock it.

So I'm guessing at one time it worked the way I want it, and they made Autolock to make some people happy, then RIM added it in as a standard feature.

I'm hoping there's a switch to choose how to make it work, I don't see a setting to do this however. Am I missing something?

I hope I've gotten your question right. In autolock you can set "timeout after backlight shut out" up to 10min.

And security options you can set the security timeout for up to one hour.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    Cheers!

Ah! Fantastic. I had assumed that meant something else. That is just about exactly what I would like it to do. Thank you kindly.

Where is the Autolock feature? What "Setting" is it under?

autolock is a application you have to install. avalible here:
    http://www.geekandproud.net/blackberry-software/

the other lock is security at the phone, options -> security options -> general settings.

The difference, with autolock you dont have to type a password to unlock the device.

It's in the Options applet, under Security and General. Set the Security Timeout to the same as your backlight timeout and it will lock as soon as your light goes off.

Gotcha. For some reason, mine is locked at 20 minutes. I can't change that function.
No worries. 20 minutes is a good amt of time

I think you're right. Which makes me not want the "Autolocker."
Also, i don't know why you really need the autolocker. Before I put my phone in my pocket, I hold down the button on top of the Pearl, which basically "locks" the phone, unless you push that same button.

Well Autolock (which I have on my BB) is for those who forget to lock their keypads (as I've done plenty of times before discovering Autlock) and find out their phone was calling his or her friends/family without knowing!!

It rings, but it uses the current profiles default ring, not your custom ringtones for a given contact.
