pearl 8100 taking forever to format memory card

i got a 4gb microSD card for my new pearl 8100.. i go to the media card under options, hit menu, and hit format and it has me confirm. then it just sits there foreverrrrrrr and doesnt display a progress bar or anything. trackball wont move anywhere either. press the ALT button does make the little up arrow in the upper right corner so it leads me to believe that it's not actually formatting it, its just frozen.

4.5 OS.. took back the 4gb card and got a 2gb one instead just to see, and it does the same exact thing.

i select format from the menu, i confirm format, and then it just freezes, partly. the ALT key works, when i scroll the trackball it still makes its trackball clicky noise, and if i receive or send data the up/down arrows will flash... it just doesnt say anything about it actually formatting. i let it sit there for ~20 minutes and it still hasn't done anything. problem with my OS probably?

Shouldn't be the OS. 4.5 series hasn't ever had a with formatting that I know of.
Did you try it thru the PC instead?

Not that it should matter, but did you try it with the media card set for mass storage mode on or off?
You might try it with the opposite of what it's set at now.

    What vers of Windows?
Try the quick format 1st, same prob, do a full format.
It might be locked. For who knows what reasons.
Rt click, properties, sharing, security and take ownership/add current user and set users properties to full control. (Vista)

Windows (any version) Try both types of formats, quick and full.
Run chkdsk and let it repair any errors, then try format again.
Windows (Vista) Rt click on memory card, then security tab.
Make sure the current windows users name appears, if not add it.
Then click the user name and select full control.
    Try format again.

you cant run chkdsk on RAW drives... it's not locked either, it displays that the write-protect is on if it is.
