it is light dependent, the light sensor tells it to turn off in bright lights and on in the dark

and there is no way to turn it off completely

the light is still on no matter how yout look at it, the only way to turn them off forever is to bust them out because there is no option to turn the lights off for good.

Why would you want to turn it off completely? Do you not like seeing your keys in the dark?

Anyways the sensor is where the status LED is. There is no simple way to stop it. To remove the LEDs completely would require a LOT of work.

    You're kinda stuck with it.

The reason I want to remove it is because i downloaded the color pearl app and i the red looks pink when the backlight is on but its good when the keypad backlight is off. It all has to do with the light in the room though i guess.
I was thinking of putting electrical tape over the sensor lol.

Re: Pearl 8100 keypad back light question

Putting tape over the sensor would make the backlight be on constantly. Since the sensor would sense it being dark all the time. So not the best idea.

You could pop out the trackball and put a small piece of electrical tape over the white LED in there. That would be your best bet. But remember that's going to still drain your battery.
