    OS update problem

Just downloading an OS update from my provider (Orange UK)

can get the exe. file onto my PC - saved in a temp directory as it says.

How do I get this onto the pearl ???

The app loader doesnt automatically recognise the file - if I specify the file, it locks up desktop manager.

Never done this before so a step by step would be great.

    thanks

c13tay, although you dowloaded the file you also need to install it.

use your bb desktop manager and do a back up before you install new version.

It takes a long time to load so be patient

    Re: OS update problem

For reloading the BlackBerry handheld code onto your device, please follow these simple instructions.
Make sure you've loaded the BlackBerry desktop software, included in the box, onto your PC (When installing the BlackBerry desktop software, please select the option to integrate with a new email or existing Internet Service Provider (ISP) email account.
If you have the BlackBerry Desktop software open on your PC, please close it before downloading the software.
Step 1: Click on the desired handheld software link to download the software and follow the installation wizard.
Step 2: Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software and connect your BlackBerry to your PC
Step 3: If you'd like to keep any of the data that's already on your BlackBerry, and restore after reloading the handheld software, select the Back up and Restore option, and select Back up. If you'd prefer not to keep any of the data on your BlackBerry, follow Step 4.
Step 4: From the BlackBerry Desktop Manager > double-click Application Loader icon. The Application Loader wizard appears.
Step 5: Click Next. The Handheld Application Selection window appears.
Step 6: In the Handheld Application Selection window, ensure the appropriate applications are selected and click Next.
Step 7: The Completing the Application Loader Wizard appears, and states no actions required. Click Advanced.
Step 8: In the Handheld Data Preservation window, select Erase all application data and Erase all currently installed applications and click Next.
Step 9: Click Finish. The handheld resets.
Note: This process will take several minutes.
Then do a restore from your DM

    Thanks Gazar

As I said ive downloaded the update to my pc (in temp dir)

    This is a .exe file

Are you saying I should open this file ??

presume I need to do this before I use application loader - I tried app loader but it doesnt recognise the exe file

Ive double clicked the .exe file - an install wizard starts but then throws me out cos I need admin rights for our network

You need to install upgrade first

I am in the same boat regards admin rights, it sucks, I reckon you will have to do it on your home PC.

Or be nice to your IT department.

You need to delete the vendor file (search for .vendor file and when you find it delete it) then when you run the app loader it should work.

    Re: OS update problem

Lol I think you do have to delete it. I remember when i went from .71 to .73 I had to delete it and they were both on Cingular. I remember forgeting to delete the vendor file and then cheri helped me and said that I had to delete the vendor file. I mean he could try it and it is just sitting in the trash after you delete it and you just right click it and it gives you an option to put it back to where it came from, so it is not that big of a deal if he deletes it and he wasn't supposed to.

That is very true, It wont do any harm to delete it now, I was just under the opinion that you only needed to do this when using other carriers versions.
