I'm making the move I want a camera and I like the size of the Pearl the only that that I really want that the Pearl lacks is GPS.

What are the experiences of people moving from the 8700 to Pearl?

I havn't done the move, but I can help you dodge a bullet. Go ahead and get the updated desktop manager and handheld software before you sync the first time or the pearl goes nuts.

As for GPS, I got a Holux Bluetooth GPS dealie and it works great. It was around $70.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i switched a while back when the trackwheel on my 8700 died. The biggest difference is getting used to suretype and not having the trackwheel. I have a pharos GPS pick that I got for my HP PDA, and it works fine. I like the trackball much better, now that I have been using it. It allows you to use the desktop view when you are online which is kind of nice, it also let's you use the zoom function on opera mini beta. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Same here, except I switched from the 7100 series to the Pearl when the trackwheel locked up. No problems learning to use the trackball at all.

I had an 8703e and a 8830 with Verizon. And know I have switched carriers and got the pearl. I don't regret it at all. You get used to the suretype very quickly and the size is awesome. Didn't use GPS so that wasn't an issue for me. You've made a good choice.

Does sure type learn words? I am in finance so I am a bit concerned about decimal points dollar signs and word recognition.

I would say yes. Suretype learns words. As new words are used. Suretype remembers them.
