    um wow, thought just my speakerphone utility had become weird...
    turns out the speaker itself is blown.
    i have no idea what to do..
    is this covered by my warranty (got the pearl in SEPT from T-mo)
    will i have to pay ins deductible to get a replacement?

    wow this sucks

    Should be covered by manufacturer warranty, so you won't have to use insurance. Good news, no deductible! :UP:

    bb support at t-mo is having me install update...
    i'm telling her i need a new phone, OS update can't fix a
    broker speaker.........derrrrr

    wowwww, that sucks. <----just saw your new thread.

    what happens is they'll ask you a bunch of questions and ask you to try something and once they run you through that, they will ship you a new phone and when you recieve it they will have you ship back your current.

    you don't have any damage on the phone right? if they see any pixel damage (blue fingerprint when phone is on), heavily scratched up case, etc. they will blame the damage on you and say the speaker wasn't defective and charge you a $100 deductible for replacing the phone.

    oh and make sure to completely wipe it. If they see any 3rd party software they will blame it on that (makes no sense right? ha, tell them that). also restore your OS version if you have changed it to a different carriers.

    hmmm yeah so after an hour on the phone with bb support,
    (and installing new OS)
    of course the new OS didn't magically fix my busted speaker...
    its really funny cuz i started the call off like this
    "HI, My name is Josh and i need a replacement phone
    because my speaker has stopped working..."

    the tech did ask if i had any third party apps on it...
    could they really blame it on that and charge me a deductible?

    I'll will be soooooo livid if i have to pay $100
    i consider myself lucky for having no major problems until now

    Oh....and T-mo i want my HOUR back ......lol

    anyways my new refurbished pearl gets shipped tommorrow

    ...you gave an honest answer didn't you?

    hopefully they don't, but they are within contract rights to. whether it's a music player or a whole new OS, it's considered 3rd party and you are voiding agreement.

    Doesn't always have to be a newbie. When my 2nd 7105T's trackwheel broke (it lost the ability to click on an item), the local T-Mo rep had another tech on the phone and I SWEAR she told that tech at least FOUR TIMES (if not more) that the trackwheel could scroll but not click. I spent nearly 2 hours in the store that day (after the in-store rep had been hung up on about 3 times from Tech Support). I got a free Pearl (actually only $15 with the cost of shipping) out of the whole ordeal.

    An OS would not void a warranty. Heck I sent my second 7105 back with OS 4.1.xxx (I forgot what the xxx was but I know it wasn't what the phone originally came with LOL) and my warranty was not voided.

    J & Erica, if you install an OS that has not been released by your provider it is considered a breach and can void the warranty. Their thinking is "we cover you for what we provided, not what someone else did". It's like why they won't cover insurance on a phone you have had unlocked and brought over from a different provider.

    I don't know who told you otherwise, but you've been misinformed. Chances are they did not take notice of your OS Erica.

    Maybe I should call In about my trackball scrolling down is messed up.. Its just more sensitive to the touch when you move it upwards but scrolling down is just slow and not too responsive sometimes....
