    Nooby question if I may

Sorry if this has already been discussed

I would like some help over a few questions I have.

I am seriously thinking about buying a pearl 8100

I have a BB 7200 which I still use but I also have a mobile phone both on contracts. I want one device.

Can i use a dual sim into the pearl so I can use both numbers, one to receive emails and the other to make calls. Is this possible? I know you can buy dual sims for the 8100.

Would I need to configure the pearl?

Is this as strtaight forward is i think?

    in anticipation

    thanks

    Jules

I'm not sure what you mean by the dual SIM option, but you could always just add the e-mail address you use for the one into the Pearl and use your SIM card that has the phone number you'll be using for calls.

I have two e-mails addresses on mine right now. One is Gmail and the other is my local Tampa e-mail address.

    Welcome to the Stacks!

I haven't heard about using a dual SIM card in the pearl, and I've never seen it in any documentation either. I just tried to find anything on the RIM site and couldn't, perhaps I was using the wrong terms. If anything though, that would be some wicked battery usage as your device tried to keep in contact with both providers.

You'd need an adapter that worked in the 8100. A lot of them seem to get mixed reviews. Have you searched for info? If there are no threads on the matter here then try BlackberryForums.com as I know I've seen threads on dual SIM usage on one of these sites.

there are dual sims out there

I have 2 contracts( which i cant cancel for 18 months) One for my BB 7200 for emails and one for my phone. i would like 1 device. I want to know if i can use the dual sim for both in the pearl with this dual sim card. Would i need to configure the pearl each time or would it recognise each sim when i receive or send emails or make calls

    thanks

Yeah, I understand what you are shooting for, and I know they exist. I just don't think a pearl, or any blackberry, would handle it very well. Just because you are connecting to more than just cell service. I really think you would need to ask the people making and selling these cards if it is even compatible to begin with.

Hi Julesuk...I know what you are refering to and I have seen these on the internet....I honestly think these are questions for the dual sim vendor you are considering. I do not beleive that both can be active at the same time however.

    Post back your findings!

Re: Nooby question if I may

    Hi All

Details on the dual sim- looks promising. will buy and try out next few days. will report my findings in due course.

Switch between sims via the phone's menu!
Option to auto switch between sims every 1-99 minutes
    - use the manual sim selection option if you don't want to auto switch
    - allows you to use two sim cards in one phone
    - No need to cut your sim card like with similar products
    - more convenient than removing your back cover/battery every time you want to swap sim cards
    - combine business/personal lines and address books on one handset
    - switch between networks easily - no more coverage problems!
    - take advantages of cheaper rates from different phone companies
    - saves your previous calls, received calls, time and date settings etc.
    - new ultra slim design - sits inbetween your battery and back cover
    - no need to replace your phone's back cover - the ghost sims sit inbetween your battery and standard back cover
    - works with all sims
    - can be used to add another 200 contacts to your phone book via the second sim card (sim dependent)
    - works with virtually all makes and models
