My 8100 just developed a strange problem out of the blue. There is no sound from the speaker when I make calls. Speakerphone works, game sounds work and music works. It gets annoying when I always have to put the phone on speakerphone to hear calls. I've tried restarting, pulling the battery and raising the volume without luck.
The games and music would be played through the speakerphone. There's a chance the front speaker is shot. This was a problem on some of the early 8100's. How old is it? Still under warranty?
I went thru 3 speakers so far.
Your speaker blew out. This is a known defect of the 8100. I know
other people who have had 3 failures also with different 8100's.
If you have insurance you will pay $110 or more for 5 min tech time and a
$5 speaker. BB will charge you 180. Find a local pro to fix it unless its
under warrenty. Fulton Wireless, Hempstead, NY charged me $35.
There are directions for disassembling an 8100 online... it shouldn't be too difficult to replace the speaker.
so i just found this repair place:
Anybody has any experience with them? are they trustworthy?
thankfully it is only 11 months old. this is my first expensive phone and first bb. you would think such an high tech phone would last at least a year. hoping tmo will come to the rescue.
