    newbie getting my 1st BB

I ordered a Pearl 8100 with T-Mobile last week, since my year is up, and I hate my Razr. Well, it was OK.
I've been playing with a co-workers Verizon 8130 for a while and fell in love with the phone. This will be my 1st BB, and internet phone.
I just found out T-Mobile is releasing the 8120 the after my 8100 arrives. I have 14 days to trade it in.
Is there anything gained by getting the newer 8120 over the 8100?
    Besides wifi and Video cam?
I guess I'll see how much more money it is.

    Welcome Jon!
Firstly the WiFi option is more of a matter of preference and access, if you have a wireless router at home and access to WiFi on a regular basis than I would say go for it, I love using WiFi on my Curve, browsing, and downloadin apps is much faster,
As far as Video is concerned, it will be available for the Pearl you ordered via updating to the newest OS (4.5) when it becomes available.
    Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I do have wifi at home and at one of my job sites. I use up minutes pretty easily, so maybe the wifi calling will keep my peak talk time log down, too.

Yes, I would turn it back in for the 8120. You may as well get the newest release for your upgrade. Read the thread called 8120 review. It is better than the 8100 in my opinion. Price I heard is $149.99 w/2yr contract after mail in rebate and $199.99 w/1yr.. Not to bad!

Been playing with the 8120 and my 8100, not much different. (Other than the obvious) The OS reminds me of the XP -> Vista upgrade, its all flashy and cute looking...If its only a $50 upgrade, I'd do it, but anything over would be a actual decision.... /shrug

From reading the OS 4.5 thread it seems as though the 8100 will NOT support video recording. With an unlimited data plan I dont really need WiFi access on my phone. And if I'm near enough to an access point, I would rather just use the laptop/pc that is likely nearby. The opera mini browser is so fast for surfing the delay is hardly noticeable. I would like video recording, and if that actually does make it into the 4.5 update then I would definitely take the 8100 pearl and save some money. Of course, you probably dont have that long to wait. If anything I suppose the 8120 will retain a larger resale value if and when you choose to dump it.

I got ahold of the 4.5 for the 8100 and it definately does not have video recording. It was posted as a legal release, but the link was quickly removed from the site so I don't know for sure if it's beta or full, in any case it's a nice upgrade but really doesn't change the functionality of the device except for youtube which is quite hit and miss in my experience.

Along with video recording on the 8120 doesn't it also have a 2MP camera instead of a 1.3MP that the 8100 has? That and wifi might just make it worth the upgrade if it's within your financial means.

    Happy Berrying!

Do you know if the update is supposed to offer A2DP for the 8100?

    If the 8120/30 support WiFi/A2DP/video rec/youtube then I would say it's a definite upgrade.

Hey Just posted on Pinstack's homepage. The 8120 is evidently out, someone has just reported ordering it online. Cost reported to be 149.00 after $50.00 mail in rebate.

Thanks for all the replies and input folks!
My 8100 arrives today, so I'll be reporting later. The 8120 upgrade arguments are pretty valid at this point.
Too bad I ordered the phone from T-Mobile.com and not in the T-Mobile store in the mall...I'll be w/o it for a few days if I exchange it.

I noticed that Tmobile hasn't posted that the 8120 is even out yet, does anyone have the release date for it?
