Re: Newb in need of help!! plz

I found mdmgen and mdmgen.PNF, no inf tho. I just downloaded and installed the latest TMobile DM software the 200+ MB file. a few minutes ago and still no standard modem or RIM ports. I am trying the copy mdmgen.inf from another computer to see if that works! thanks alot for all the help sooner or later we will get this tho! I had the device manager on my computer opened when i plugged in my pearl to the usb and for one split second the RIM Mass Storage came up in other device then disappeared! any thoughts?

PM me your email and I will send you the .inf file GaryF sent. I replied to your PM.

Thanks GaryF I got it up and running perfectly after I did what you said with installing the .inf file and then setting up the modem (earlier in the thread). It was the .inf file that was the problem.

One more question. Tmobile doesnt charge for tethering if you have unlimited data plan, correct?

dgaines == Your files are correct. The inf extension does not show in the screen.

Mass storage is not important for this project. I will study this furhter and advise....

No charge for tethering with a data plan -- I do it all the time!

    Happy surfing!

I don't think it has anything to do with the Desktop Manager or the OS so that pretty much leaves it to something in the PC. Tmobile and RIM had me thinking it was the DM software. Im stumped!!

dgaines -- as I read it you are not seeing the standrd modem and you do have the needed files -- if so here is a work around for you to try...

    1. Open the Control Panel and double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon.
    2. Click the Modems tab.
    3. Click Add. The Add Hardware Wizard window appears.
    4. Select the Don't detect my modem, I will select it from a list check box and clickNext.
    5. Select one of the 56000 bps modems from the Models list and click Next.
    6. Select Selected ports.
    7. Select the COM port where the RIM Virtual Serial COM Port is installed and click Next. This port is usually COM3.
    8. When the modem has finished installing, click Finish.
    9. Verify that the Standard Modem device is installed. For instructions, see the Additional Information section below.
Let us know how it goes.

Good news!! THink it is going to work finally got my PC to recognize the RIM virtual ports woohoo now to setting everything else up! Not quite sure what finally worked could have been the USB driver update for my PC or the 10th time reinstalling the BBDM software! lol thanks every1
