Are you sure you are looking in the correct place? Under PORTS.
Also please confirm you are using XP?

Re: Newb in need of help!! plz

Heres the part in the steps were I have problems.

    Select <Connect Using a Dial Up Modem>

Under "Select A Device" select or check the box that is the RIM COM Port you noted from before, usually COM4 or COM5.
I do all of the steps mentioned but it never says Select a device or choose a port. It automatically choose a port (port 1)

Also in my modem options I dont have standard modem.

TJ - what are your Modem Options?

Try this...in Control Panel select PHONE & MODEM OPTIONS
    Then MODEMS Tab
    Then Try ADD

Lets see what comes up :-)

    @dgaines - Noted.

UPDATE-- PLEASE CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE SET THE TCP as follows
    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    username:
    password:
    (both are blank)

Ok...let me do some research on this and I will post back shortly. In the meantime I would like you to reboot your desktop, your phone, and connect everything back up. Please also check your Phone and Modem options in Control Panel for the Standard Modem as I suggested to TeamJordan in the post above.

Post back any change in your situation.

When I go where you say and click add, these are my options. On the right under Manufacturer it says Standard modem types and then under models I have two options Communications cable between two computers or Parallel cable between two computers. Thats all.

Is this after you run the wizzard or are you "selecting from a list"?

    TJ

It sounds like you are missing the modem drivers.

Please run the installation program for desk top manager and select "repair". See if that helps. The file that we are looking for is mdmgen.inf --- check here to see if it exists:

Click Start>Run and type %systemroot%\inf. Click OK. Windows Explorer opens the INF folder.Locate the mdmgen.inf file

Looked through the folder and couldn't find mdmgen.inf...

So what should i do? Repair desktop manager or is it a problem with Windows XP? I'm running Desktop manager 4.3, which i reinstalled recently.

Re: Newb in need of help!! plz

Here are the resolutions from RIM. If you would like PM me your email address and I will email you the file from my computer running XP Pro sp2.

    Cause

The mdmgen.inf file is missing from the INF folder on your computer. This file contains driver definitions for the modem. It is required to create the Standard Modem device.
    Resolution Summary

Perform one of the following procedures:
    1. Copy the mdmgen.inf file from another computer.
    2. Copy the mdmgen.inf file from the Windows XP CD.
    Resolution 1

Copy the mdmgen.inf file from another computer. Make sure the BlackBerry device is disconnected from the computer during this process.
    1. Find a computer running the same version of Windows XP, including the same service packs.
    2. On that computer, click Start>Run and type %systemroot%\inf. Click OK. Windows Explorer opens the INF folder.
    3. Locate the mdmgen.inf file, then transfer it to the target computer (e.g., as an email attachment).
    4. On the target computer, go to Start>Run and type %systemroot%\inf. Click OK. Windows Explorer opens the INF folder.
    5. Save the mdmgen.inf file in the INF folder.
    6. Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry desktop software. For instructions, see KB02206.
    7. Restart the computer.
    8. Re-install the desktop software.
    9. Open Windows Device Manager and verify that the Standard Modem device is created.
      1. In the Control Panel, double-clickSystem.
      2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
      3. Expand Modems. The Standard Modem device should appear (see the example image above).
    Resolution 2

Copy the mdmgen.inf file from the Windows XP CD. Make sure the BlackBerry device is disconnected from the computer during this process.
    1. Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer.
    2. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD.
    3. Copy the mdmgen.inf file.
    4. Click Start>Run and type %systemroot%\inf, then clickOK. Windows Explorer opens the INF folder.
    5. Paste the mdmgen.inf file into the INF folder.
    6. Rename the mdmgen.inf file tomdmgen.cab.
    7. Double-click the mdmgen.cab file. Windows Explorer displays the mdmgen.inf file stored inside the mdmgen.cab file.
    8. Copy the mdmgen.inf file and paste it in the INF folder.
    9. Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry desktop software. For instructions, see KB02206.
    10. Restart the computer.
    11. Re-install the desktop software.
    12. Open Windows Device Manager and verify that the Standard Modem device is created.
      1. In the Control Panel, double-clickSystem.
      2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
      3. Expand Modems. The Standard Modem device should appear (see the example image above).
