    New to blackberry

I recently bought my first blackberry pearl and im having some trouble with it. The internet browser, mms messages, and medianet are all missing. Do i need to take it to the store or did I get a defunct phone. I did an OS update to the latest one but the browser etc didnt show up. I have a data plan but it is not the blackberry specific plan.

The reason none of that stuff is showing up is because you don't have a Blackberry Data Plan. You need one in order to get the Browsers and MMS working.

Call AT&T customer care and have them change your plan from the regular data plan over to one of the BDP's.

You also need to get the latest desk top manager by downloading a new version here:

    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

The AT&T version that ships with your phone will remove apps and cause other problems.

Yep! Without a BB data plan, your Berry is just plain crippled! It's worth every penny to me!

Meatbag - who is your provider? If you posted it I missed it. TMO unlimited BB is ony $19.99. And for what its worth I got my son (a college senior) a pearl that he uses as a phone, organizer (calender and contacts) and for texting and he loves it - so it is possible to be happy with out data....

Naw its cool meatbag..but yeah when u get any blackberry without a bb plan you pretty much render it useless to what the true extend and powerful things you can do with it. try it out for a month and see if you like it if not. you always have 30 days to exchange the product for something else

Since when did I direct anything at you or what you sell. I asked a question. If would have taken one word to answer it compared to your 60 or so words of BS.

I have AT&T and I was told by the store sales person that my current data plan would cover the MMS messaging and internet access. I bought the phone b/c I liked the way the menus were layed out, qwerty keys etc, not for the business applications it had.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~sorry to have sounded harsh...you can in theory get it to work with whatever data plan you have.. There is a thread in here somewhere that gives you precise directions in how to make it work..
