New to Blacberry World. Need some Help.

    Hi All,

I am new to the blackberry world. I got it couple of weeks back from T-Mobile. I do not have data connection. Search thru google for help on the device and here i am. Have gone thru couple of threads and pointers are really helpful. ppl here are really helpful. great work guys.

I have couple of question which may appear silly, but ur comments wud be highly appreciated.

    1. Per the previous threads i read thru, it appears that there is an upper limit on size of the file that
i can transfer from my PC to pearl? Is it so? To surpass this, do i need a microSD card to transfer huge MP3 files to my mobile? what is max storage limit for microSD card that pearl supports? does the storage limit depends on OS on my pearl? If so, how do i know which OS is running? Are there any specification for microSD card that pearl supports? I just saw a deal for
    A-data microSD 2GB for 19$ ?

    2. Can I view video files on pearl? How do i play it? Whenever i trnasfered video file (of size <2.85 mb) it gets copied to Device memory in Ringtones? How can i play it thru video player? Video player does not show device memory? Is there a way out?

    3. I am not able to receive any files from my friends mobile thru bluetooth. They are able to receive it from my mobile? but i cannot get of their mp3 files?

Phew!!! lotsa queries in the first mail. But ur replies would surely help me use my pearl effectively.

    Thanks in advance.

    1) yes there are limits to the internal memory, so it is a very good idea to get a memory card. I believe the limit on those is 2gb micro-SD. Before you buy one from a local store I would suggest trying a few online sites: frys.com buy.com both had some great deals on them recently so may still.

To find out the OS version go to Options / About. (It will say something like 4.2.0.73)

    2) Yes you can do video, I have a few Family Guy episodes on my memory card. Once you get that and transfer a few on it, you just go to Media / Video / Media Card and play which ever video. They must be in 3gp or other compatible formats (not sure what other ones, haven't tried any others yet).

    3) not sure about this one, could be perhaps the memory limitation of your device ?

for # 3 you will need a micro card then go to the correct file and hit menu and rec. via BT. that is after pairing of course and welcome!

That card would work. I am not very familiar with the brand though, here are some prices for a 2gb SanDisk microSD card http://computers.pricegrabber.com/fl...search=microsd around $20 plus 5 for shipping... not bad, great brand.

I have no experience with that particular card but the SD adapter is for using your microSD card with a device that has a standard sized SD slot.

    Hello eveyone.
I just bought a 8100 Pearl and was wondering can I BT the MP3 files (as ringtones) into the phone without loading the BB software and using the Mini USB cable? With my old 6230 nokia and motorola Slvr I had no problem doing that. Also can I use Cingular instead of BB's for my Media package? I just want to surf the internet and check my emails. I don't need to me notified or be alerted on my emails.

    Thank You again

Not sure about the BT transfer but are you using a sd card? If so enable mass storage mode and your computer will see and treat our phone as a removable drive.

Use profiles to set your email notifications to "None".

    Hope this helps.

Re: New to Blacberry World. Need some Help.

    Hi Gary,
Thank You for the response. No I just got the phone and have not gotten around to getting a SD card yet. I figured I could just BT the MP3 into the Ringtones folder but that didn't work. I even tried to use the USB cable and bring it in with the BB software that came with the phone and things got worst. I couldn't even play the ringtones that came with the phone after that. I got a message that said "Unable to play *** wav files. I took the phone back and ordered another one and Cingular thought it was a software problem. I should have another phone next week sometime. I just wanted to make sure on this new Pearl I don't do the same mistake again. I know I am not going to use the BB software this time. I just can't believe this phone won't let you BT the MP3 over to it. I just found this forum and see that everyone is very helpful. Thank You again for the response.

    Take Care
    Paul
