Question New Pearl owner & new to BB.

Hello all! Just got my Cingular Pearl two days ago and absolutely love it. The large size has kept me away from BB in the past and this thing is awesome. One disappointment though is the desktop management software that comes with it. It's horrible! One of the things I was looking forward to was managing my contacts and calendar on my desktop and syncing them to my BB Pearl. All it seems you can do with the included software is transfer media files. Are there any 3rd party alternatives out there you would all recommend for contacts & calendar/appointments/task management for your desktop that allow syncing to the BB? Thanks in advance!

    Hello air, welcome to pinstack.

The desktop manager is absolutely wonderful for syncing your pearl to your pc, and is actually the only way you will ever need.

In the configuration of desktop manager you will be able to set it to sync, import or export with Outlook, etc...

Thanks CP and the rest of you for the welcome!

Well, I don't use outlook so what else is there to sync to? What I meant in my post is that unlike ... say ... palm desktop where you actually pull up a calendar on your pc and you can input events/tasks etc and then sync it to your PDA, there is no such feature in the desktop manager. Everything appears to have to be entered on your BB. Same with contacts. I'd love to pull up a contact manager on my PC and type them in (faster and easier than the BB keyboard) and then sync it with the BB itself. This could also be a a nice backup feature although I see on the BB desktop manager that there is a backup feature ... I just haven't used it yet.

Not sure I clarified there, kinda hard to explain apparently.

Well CP, I checked out the configuration and I did indeed list some other things you could use for calendar and contacts, but other than outlook I had never heard of any of them. I'll definitely check them out. Heck, maybe I'll start using outlook!! Thanks again!!

    air4ce1, Welcome to PinStack.

As has been suggested, the BB Desktop Manager will allow you to sync you BB with about 6 different PIM applications including Outlook and Lotus Notes, amoung others and also with AscII Text Files.

Here is a list of what PIMs Desktop Manager 4.2 will work with:

    Organizer Support:
    Microsoft® Outlook® 2000 Outlook 2002/XP or Outlook 2003
    Lotus Notes® 5.0.6 or later, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0
    ACT!® 4.0.2, 5.0 (2000) or 6.0
    Lotus Organizer® 6.1
Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0 or 6.0
    Novell® GroupWise® 6.0.1, 6.5.4 or higher and 7.0
    ASCII Importer/Exporter

Thanks much Rcbjr!! Searching the net for Lotus organizer now. Sounds like that will be exactly what I'm looking for.

This forum is fantastic. I've learned a ton!! Thanks to you all.
