No, Rogers is a Canadian provider. It will not cause a problem if you delete the vendor.xml file before you install it. There are some threads on here that tell you how to do it - its very easy. I'd find them for you, but I'm on my phone - sorry.

Note though, installing an OS other than your service provider's will void your warranty. But, shouldn't be a problem. If you have questions once you start, anyone on here will be glad to help out.

Question Re: New Pearl OS from AT&T 4.2.1.96

Well I downloaded and installed it. Now I don't play real close attention to versions, but just noticed that I was outdated. Here are a couple things I noticed that I now have (I am a Cingular customer):

    1. My SMS and Email Icons now look different from each other when they are in my mailbox.
    2. Display Message Header can be auto, 1 line, or two lines.
    3. Under Email Settings you can auto set any of your email address to do the following: Confirm Delivery, Confirm Read, and Send Read Receipts.
    4. The calculator can be used with your trackball as opposed to hitting any keys.

Like I said, maybe I never paid attention, but this stood out when I installed 4.2.1.96 tonight.

    Cheers, David

Cano...no it will not interfere with your plan...the OS's are device specific not carrier.

Here's a link to a thread with step by step instructions. Read Carefully first.

    I'm not 100% sure, but I think:
#1 & 2 were available on the Rogers OS.
#3 is a feature of the new BIS 2.3 as opposed to the device OS.
#4 however minor, sounds new to me.

Thanks for taking time to check the OS out. I won't be able to try it until tomorrow night, so let us know if you find anything else!

Re: New Pearl OS from AT&T 4.2.1.96

I personally never had any of the discussed problems with the Rogers OS, and I don't see any downside of upgrading from that ancient original OS 0.64 from TMO.

I'll upgrade to this one and see if I can notice any differences. Probably won't be much. I'm not a guru like alot of folks here and don't know much about all the intricacies.

Well, I downgraded to the original TMO OS yesterday because my pearl was running a little funny. Seems good now, so I will try this new one. Hopefully it will work great.
