New here and want to say hi and have one question?

    Hi,

I just bought my first pearl and this little phone has allot of potential! Compared to my razr this phone is so sweet! Any rate, I just paid for my BIS thru Cingular and my email instantly started showing up on the phone. I did set up on the site to forward my comcast email to the phone. So far its working perfectly. My only issue is I downloaded opera mini and for some reason when I connect I get a 900 error?

Here is the error I get:

Failed to connect to the internet
    900 Java.io.exception:Open tunnel failur?

Also when the BIS took effect I actually had the little earth on the phone that you click to browse. The little earth is now gone and don't know where it went? Any ideas?

I thank anyone who can help me out. I tried to search it out to answer it myself as I frequent many other types of forums and your search option is your best friend. I can't find anything?

    Thanks again,
    Spankey

    See this thread: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...on_issues.html

For your Opera Mini issue, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I'm not real sure as I don't use that app.

The Opera Problem is quite possibly due to not having your TCP Settings correct. Check here for the settings for your carrier, TCP, APN, WAP, Gateway and Port Carrier Settings.

Yes, that's going to be a problem with your TCP/IP settings. I had the same issue when I first installed.
Hope that link Rcbjr posted helps!

THanks all, I did the update and sure enough the browser icon is now back. Thanks, however I checked the list above and am unsure of what settings to use? I am using a new blackberry pearl that boots to say AT&T. I have cingular but they merged with AT&T.

    Which settings should I use?

    Thanks gang.

same company shouldn't matter which one you use they should both work...but since AT&T is the parent company and the one keeping billing you should use theirs

    and welcome to the stacks!

If you are an old cingular customer, use the "Cingular 2" WAP settings listed in that thread. If you use the "Old AT&T" settings it may not work properly.

I'm a former Cingular customer using a Pearl, and my APN settings are set to the Cingular 2 settings.

Yep mine are too on my old pearl. It still has the cingular boot screen since I got it last Feb. before the changeover.

Re: New here and want to say hi and have one question?

OK now I am really confused and I am very PC savy.

    My TCP settings say this.

    APN: ISP.Cingular
    Username for APN WAP@CINGULARGRPRS.COM
Password for APN: Not sure all asterisks?

I can open links in email but can not surf the net via the browser?

    Weird...

    Thanks

Have you tried opening the browser select option> Browser Configuration> look for the browser and change it... Hope this helps. Please let us know if it does. Good luck!

Re: New here and want to say hi and have one question?

ATT here as well, my APN says wap.cingular........... I do remember on the Opera Download page they gave the settings for a couple of different Carriers.

Here is what the site says:

    Note to North-American users

Opera Mini is available to all Sprint and Cingular customers. Availability for T-Mobile customers is dependent on the subscription plan. BREW-enabled phones, including Verizon, are currently not supported.
A specific setting is required to enable Opera Mini to access the Internet on a T-Mobile Blackberry:
From your Blackberry homescreen, go to Options, then Advanced Options, then TCP. Under APN, enter "wap.voicestream.com". Leave Username and Password blank.
A specific setting is required to enable Opera Mini to access the Internet on a Cingular Blackberry:
From your Blackberry homescreen, go to Options, then Advanced Options, then TCP. Under APN, enter "wap.cingular". Also enter Username for APN: "WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM" (all uppercase) and Password for APN: "CINGULAR1" (all uppercase).

Mine already had these settings so I didn't need to change anything, Hope this helps.
