    Smile New Blackberry User

    HI all,

I am new to Blackberry after using a Sony E phone for the last 4 years.

I have been setting up the phone numbers in the directory and noticed a problem. I receieved a text and the blackberry did not acknoeledge the number as it has +44 in the front (i'm in the uk) so I changed all the numbers to +44 instead of a 0. I receievd a phone call later and it did not know who the caller was as the number that rang me started with a 0 rather than +44. On my SE phone it knew that they were both the same, does the blackberry do this or do i have to something else insted,

    Thanks

    Mark

    sparkyweb, Welcome to PinStack.

Can't help with the Pearl, but there may be a setting that will change how this works. Make sure you don't have Content Protection turned on as when the BB is locked, it won't be able to look up the phone number until you've entered you password.

    Hi,
Am new to blackberry and found exactly the same thing. Slightly disappointed if the phone cant tell the difference between a +447 and 07 ...
Do you have a fix or is this something blackberry are working on
    Thanks

    Re: New Blackberry User

I've just got my Pearl too and this issue was going to be a deal breaker for me. I found the solution in another forum (don't know if I'm allowed to name them so won't for now).

Goto your call log and press the menu key. Choose options and then Smart dialing. In country code type +44 (for the UK, amend for other countries).

My original workaround didn't work either which was to define a user field as mobile 2 and have the international version in there. It seems a bit poor that a smartphone only has one mobile field, or is there a way round this.

    eyebeebe

Thank you so much for your response!

God knows why this wasn't set up in that way, seeing that they know it is going to be used in the UK!

    Thanks again.
