    hello I just registered today and i really need some help with my pearl..

    couple days ago i tried updating my pearl
    and while it was doing the connecting to JVM, the phone showed the rotating sand clock thing, then the screen went black and the red LED light came on

    it kept on doing that while it was connecting to JVM and the app loader said it was reconnecting to JVM
    and it said

    "Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation."

    so basically my pearl is constantly showing the sand clock and the LED light
    and when i plug it into my computer using the USB it is constantly connecting and disconnecting by itself...

    does anyone know how to fix this problem???

    It sounds like you didn't let the phone complete the OS install process. Most likely you'll need to start over with the reload.

    You'll probably need to follow this walkthrough to get it back on line.

    The main thing to keep in mind is that OS installs take time. 20-30 minutes is not unusual. In this case, you may be looking at 45-60 minutes before its back to normal.

    Be patient, let it do its thing. Once the reloading starts, don't mess with it or disconnect it until its completely back online and you're at the main home screen.

    And make sure you USB port doesn't have a power saver mode activated. LaTuFu's link is the standard recommendation, but we have found this process. KB03485 - Run Application Loader when the BlackBerry device does not connect that seem a little simpler when it works.

    It did that to me too one day early in the morning when I woke up and decided that I wanted to do a flesh OS install. Worst 2 hours of my life. I was late to work... my whole life was in suspend for those 2 hours.

    Keep trying. One time it'll go through.

    Here are some tips that may or may not have helped me do the reinstall.

    Make sure not to jar the connection cord.
    Hold an umbrella upside down inside the house while standing on one leg.
    Dont do anything else on the computer while the operition is happening.
    Pray.
    Close all other programs running on the computer.

    thanks for helps everyone

    currently this was my 5th or 6th times trying but still unable to connect
    maybe my USB cord isn't good...
    i tried replacing it with a different one but so far nothing changed


    btw how do you find out if your usb port has a power save mode turned on or not?

    i'm still having trouble with getting this thing connected
    when i turn on app loader and at the Communication and Port Selection part

    the connection is at USB-PINmy pin number)

    but whenever i click next, it goes to COM1 and then USB-PIN: unknown
    and then basically the same thing as before

    unable to connect to the device..

    i tried wiping out my handheld with JL_Cmer and everything but its still not working

    Is the cord good? Is there some way you can check? You can also go to the dollar store and pick one up for a [gasp!] dollar. The springy kind too. The one that retracts into a spindle like thing.

    i have several USB cord for them,
    one for my calculator, psp, and ps3 controller
    but none of them seem to make any change
    so i dont think its the cord's problem...

    also the fact i never experienced any type of connection/disconnection problem with any one of those cords

    its very frustrating...
    hopefully i can get this thing fixed

    Are you using an extra USB connection? (EX: on the side of your monitor, back of your tower)
    or one that you use to hook up your Keyboard or mouse...

    Because what I would try doing is hooking something up to the USB on your PC (that you've been trying) using some other USB hardware (EX: Jump Drive, Bluetooth adapter)...and see if your computer is actually recognizing it, this way you'll be able to know if its your PC or your Handheld

    i tried connecting it to my brother's computer and the same exact thing happened as my computer
    so i'm guessing its the phone itself that's messed up..

    i wonder if they'll give me a replacement phone sine it hasn't been a year since i bought this phone

    That happened to me and when I called TMO, they tried to have me re-install the OS, but I couldn't because the phone wouldn't stay on long enough to connect to the computer. They said that the phone had over-tasked itself and it was through no fault of my own. They sent me a new one.

    I say call your provider. The only downside is that you'll have to use an old phone of yours or a loaner phone from the store that is guaranteed not to be as cool as the Pearl.

    well i take it out and then put it back in during the updating process..

    anyways i called T-mobile asking for warranty and they just keep on sending me over to the tech department,
    and then after tech department they tell me to call the actual blackberry company
    and when i do they tell me again to call t-mobile and from t-mobile,
    they just keep sending me from warranty depart. to tech department..


    is it even possible to get my phone back from the company
    or should i go see the retailer i bought it from

    cuz i bought it from my mom's friend who owns t-mobile store

    I'd go back to the store where I got it from, especially if you have a connection to the owner. Sometimes the companies will give more "thought" to a business and not just an end user. Not fair, but true. If you get no luck, next time call up, ask for the manager or the most senior person on shift at that time and keep going up as high as you can and make it their problem, not yours.

    ANyway, my 2 cents worth, I hope you sort it out!
